Caras' activities are focused on improving the quality of life of elderly residents so as to foster their integration and encourage their participation within community development initiatives. By providing support and companionship, elderly residents feel they are part of the community network, that they can continue to contribute towards collective action that seeks to improve quality of life within their communities for present and future generations.
Member Duties :
Americorps members will serve with the Community Coordinators in community beautification initiatives which consist of home visits to assist elderly residents in tasks that help provide decent living conditions, such as: painting, cleaning, gardening, debris removal, and minor repairs around the house. Americorps members will assist in identifying elderly participants in need of this service, coordinating activities 1-2 times a month, creating an activity calendar, following up with participants when activities are confirmed, leading the activities with volunteers, inventory, clean up and organization of materials, and coordinating with relevant agencies or services for specific needs (such as minor repairs, debris pick up, etc). Other related tasks could be assigned in order to accomplish the objectives.
