Summary Statement: The Laboratory Manager, also known as the VGE Manager (VGEM), is responsible for oversight of the operations of VisionGift East (VGE), including processing, research projects, facilities management and distribution of ocular tissue. The VGEM ensures that technical policy is carried out and current with all applicable industry, local, state, federal and institutional
standards and guidelines. The VGEM ensures that VGE provides the highest possible level of customer service to end using surgeons. The VGEM requires excellent communications skills and may be called upon to participate in surgeon and researcher engagement. As the highest level manager in a satellite location, the VGEM may be called upon to address cross-functional
areas such as tissue distribution and surgeon relations. As the Manager for the VG Satellite location, many issues will be addressed with the VGEM as the lead. Without a full complement of staff from every department on site, the VGEM will have to address issues that are outside of the Operations department by utilizing resources and direction from other departments.

Requirements: Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree or minimum of two years commensurate experience in field of eye banking coupled with managerial experience and/or knowledge of an FDA regulated environment.
Experience: Eye Bank Association of America-certified technician preferred. Must obtain EBAACEBT status within six months of hire. Previous supervisory or management experience will be viewed favorably.
Technical eye or tissue bank experience, e.g. tissue processing and/or distribution
Strong oral and written communication skills
Excellent computer skills
Essential Functions:
Ensures that resources including facilities, staff, and equipment are in place in order to process and distribute tissue for transplant and research
Ensures that Standard Operating Policies and Procedures are current with all applicable laws and regulations
Participates in hiring, training and managing all VGE staff
Evaluates tissue for suitability after importation and/or after processing
Acts as backup to Processing and Distribution teams as needed
Participates in the development and monitoring of the budget for VGE
Engages with end-using surgeons regarding tissue quality, service, and improvement
Collaborates with VP of Quality Systems to resolve issues and implement corrective actions/preventative actions
Requires travel for meetings and trips to VGW for training
Requires on-call rotation for addressing urgent processing, distribution, and facilities needs
