The Company
Pace Analytical Life Sciences (PLS) is an industry-leading commercial contract laboratory providing chemistry and microbiology testing services to the Pharmaceutical, Biopharmaceutical, and Medical Device industries.

Summary
Group Leaders are responsible for the day- to- day management of the technical section assigned, typically consisting of approximately four to ten technical staff members. They plan, coordinate and direct the operations of the technical section assigned to meet client timelines, provide data of appropriate quality and deliver analytical reports and protocols on time. They are responsible to assure that individuals operate within the quality system and drive individual productivity. This position will be located in Jayuya, Puerto Rico. Jayuya is a town in the mountains of the Island north of Ponce.

Flexibility to work weekends, holidays and extraordinary hours
The person will manage a large group, of approximately 17 microbiologists
The person will need to go to San German (SG) occasionally but maintain daily communication with the SG team
The ideal candidate should have experience in the GMP regulated industry, with supervisory experience in the Micro Lab. A must for the position is having supervisory experience and GMP experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but not limited to:

Facilitative Responsibilities:
Ensure that employees are properly trained and qualified for their positions.
Oversee that all employees have the necessary training, tools, information, accessories and materials to properly and safely perform their job responsibilities.
Evaluate employee's performance. Write, approve, administer, and participate in yearly performance reviews.
Assist in equipment and facility maintenance; investigate and facilitate the solving of any equipment/ facility problems.
Facilitate the resolution of employee issues, problems, confrontations, and complaints.

Project Management:
Group Leaders are responsible for interactions with client and typically are the main interface between PLS and the client.
Group Leaders also ensure that status and progress updates are presented to PLS management and to the client as necessary.
Coordinate work flow, from incoming samples through analysis, to outgoing results.
Also ensure that results are sent out in a timely manner and communicate with the client on any result/report issues as necessary.
Group Leaders are responsible for clearly documenting client requirements within the appropriate format (e.g. Deviations, Project Logs, and Project Requirements).

Technical Responsibilities:
Group Leaders possess thorough technical and quality understanding within their specialized area and can provide basic technical and quality support to staff members and clients.
Provide technical guidance to staff on a day-to-day basis, in order to build staff skills and to positively affect production flow.
Develop and maintain computer skills related to work performed.
Oversee work, ensure technical accuracy, and assist with validation tasks (as appropriate)
Participate in management and technical meetings with PLS management and/or the client to ensure PLS and client goals are known, addressed and satisfied.

Group Management:
Continually assess production capacity of the group relative to others in the group to make sure that the appropriate steps are being taken to attain the highest possible level of productivity.
Set production goals for all the individuals within the group. Make sure that capacity is understood by each individual, as appropriate, to ensure that client expectations are set accurately.
Assign training, laboratory and facility duties. Monitor and review these activities to ensure they are being properly conducted and completed in a timely fashion.
Interview and assist in selecting new personnel in addition to recommending and promoting current personnel.

Quality/Regulatory Oversight:
Assure that the technical area is compliant with Pace Analytical Life Sciences and general regulatory requirements. Work closely with the Quality Assurance group to ensure that all quality procedures are being followed and enforced.
Become familiar and regularly updated with quality and regulatory policies associated with the technical area.
Ensure office, laboratory and utility areas are clean and orderly so that quality work may be carried out in a safe and efficient manner.
Participate in writing, reviewing and approving SOPs, calibration procedures, laboratory procedures, validation protocols, maintenance procedures, and any other necessary protocols or reports as appropriate.
Participate in, promote and ensure that all employees participate in quality, cGMP, safety, method and technique training appropriate for their area and that all employees follow these instructions in their daily work.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises employees in their assigned group. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibility includes interviewing, hiring, and training employees. Planning, assigning, and directing work. Appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees. Addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Travel
Between Jayuya and San German Puerto Rico labs.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience - Minimum of 5 years’ experience within the field or discipline. Previous experience managing a group.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and color vision.
Work Environment – While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
Language Skills – Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public both verbally and in writing.
Mathematical Skills – Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills – Proficient use of Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office products especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and the ability to multi task between products.
