Job Description
DNV Power Systems' Advisory group is seeking a Power Systems Engineer, in the Renewables & Power Grids group. The Power Systems Engineer must demonstrate vision and drive and be passionate about contributing to the growth and evolution of the Power Systems Advisory business in North America. The ideal candidate will be aware of market opportunities where we can differentiate and innovate, and they will manage commercial projects, delivering technical insight and delighting customers with excellent customer service.
This role is based at our DNV office in Dallas (TX), Houston (TX), Medford (MA), Oak Brook (IL) or Portland (OR), presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location/site. Further details regarding role-specific requirements will be shared during the interview process.
What You'll Do Perform steady state, dynamic, short-circuit and/or PSCAD model development for renewable and conventional generation resources including Solar, Storage, Wind and Gas turbines Perform model system wide power flow analysis including steady-state, dynamic stability and short-circuit analysis Perform due diligence for M&A projects by reviewing interconnection documents from data room and identify the risk associated Complete interconnection applications and supporting documentation for projects in various RTOs (CAISO, PJM, NYISO, MISO, ERCOT, SPP) and vertically integrated markets (WECC, SERC etc.) Evaluate transmission & interconnection tariffs, costs, timelines, queue, and processes for a variety of markets and provide strategy to our stakeholders Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for area(s) related to grid reliability and/or energy markets Actively attend (in person/remote) industry stakeholder meetings and stay up to date with assigned market changes in terms of developments and policy changes Contribute to the team's research and innovation activities in terms of development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to further the team's performance in terms of efficiency and/or capability improvements Cultivate new customer relationships, and assist in preparing responses to Requests for Proposals (RFP) and provide Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) for new tenders/bids/opportunities Responsibilities Generous paid time off (vacation, sick days, company holidays, personal days) Multiple Medical and Dental benefit plans to choose from, Vision benefits Spending accounts - FSA, Dependent Care, Commuter Benefits, company-seeded HSA Employer-paid, therapist-led, virtual care services through Talkspace 401(k) with company match Company provided life insurance, short-term, and long-term disability benefits Education reimbursement program Flexible work schedule with hybrid/remote opportunities Charitable Matched Giving and Volunteer Rewards through our Impact Program Volunteer time off (VTO) paid by the company Career advancement opportunities **Benefits vary based on position, tenure, location, and employee election**

Qualifications What is Required Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering In-depth understanding of fundamentals of electric power systems and renewable energy 1 to 3 years of hands-on experiences with power-system tools PSS/E, Power-world, PSLF and PSCAD Direct work experience in transmission and/or distribution planning related analyses in transmission planning and/or resource interconnection Knowledge of North American RTO/ISO markets grid interconnection and corresponding planning practices including resource integration studies, NERC standards and ISO/RTO resource interconnection model requirements Ability to work in a dynamic team environment Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% of the time Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to rent and drive a car and travel on public conveyances when required Strong written and verbal English communication skills We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening What is Preferred: Graduate level degree with emphasis on Electric Power Systems Demonstrable hands-on experience with power system analysis software packages including ASPEN, PSLF, CYME, ETAP, TSAT, TARA Synergie Electric and/or DIGSILENT, EMTP-RV, AUTOCAD AUTODesk Track record of project management and/or successful completion of project management related trainings 1 to 3 years of experience in resource interconnection working with a consultant Working knowledge of software packages like Python or VBA About Us About Energy Systems
