GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE The Sr. Internal Farming Accountant will develop solutions to complex problems, recommend best practices, manage multiple priorities, connect the interdependencies between Operations, Finance, Accounting and cross functional work groups.
May lead projects or participate in project teams.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION
- Create and maintain Standard Operations Procedures (SOP's) as well as desk top procedures for the accounting tasks for OVP and RPC entities.
- Prepare Adhoc reports as needed for the Internal Farming Operations team.
- Under the guidance of the farm Controller develop and maintain internal farming reports.
- Develop and automate new reports such as the new Crop Statement report, which will include actual, budget and PY information as well as per acre information for the period and season to date.
- Review crop statements with the Farm Controller and the Internal Farming Director after each period end.
- Complete necessary month end analysis, schedules and commentary.
- Under the guidance of the farm Controller develop and maintain new schedule for and properly track leases and subleases.
Ensure lease expense is recorded in the proper period and update procedures as needed.
Staff accountant will support on this task.
- Support the budget preparation for OVP and RPC.
- Supervise the work of the Internal Farming Staff Accountant, including approving journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Review and Approve A/P invoices for OVP and RPC.
- Prepare Supporting Audit Schedules.
- Work independently and in cross-functional teams as required, to improve the processes used to complete the responsibilities of the position.
- Support Farm Controller and Internal Farming Director with ad hoc financial analysis and projects as needed.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skill and Experience Requirements)
- 3-5 years' experience in Accounting or related field, or relevant corporate financial reporting experience.
- Strong ERP software experience required.
- Intermediate Excel skills to include VLOOKUP, pivot table, external linking, and respect for proper database management and accuracy to ensure data quality and integrity.
- Working experience in Agriculture industry preferred.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), procedures and application.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to multitask, work independently, strong attention to detail with focus on accuracy.
- Ability to analyze data and provide creative solutions.
- Strong oral and written communications skills.
- Ability to collaborate and interact effectively with management and various functional work groups.
- Establishes priorities and desired outcomes and creates plans to achieve them.
- Collaborates with colleagues to achieve company goals.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) will be a plus.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
- CPA preferred
EMPLOYEE MANAGEMENT
This position will have one direct report: Internal farming staff accountant.

WORK HOUR REQUIREMENT
8am to 5pm regularly, might need to work longer hours during period-end, year-end and budget times.
Also, everyone in accounting is supporting the GRL after hours, this will happen for one week at a time every 3 months approx.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
5% of the time.
