Duties SummaryThe Radiation Oncologist will provide radiation oncology physician services to Veterans at the VA Caribbean Healthcare System, San Juan, PR. Under the supervision of the Chief, Radiation Oncologist, the physician provides direct clinical and administrative oversight for mid-level practitioners, physics, dosimetry, radiation therapists and other clinical staff as assigned. Responsibilities The Radiation Oncologist is expected to maintain current knowledge and skills. She or he must be able to deliver interventions throughout the full spectrum of Radiation Oncology; i.e. S/he is expected to maintain good diagnostic and therapeutic acumen.The overall responsibilities typically includes, but are not limited to:Provides initial evaluation and subsequent management of both outpatients and inpatients in response to consultation requests from referring physicians or other clinical services.The Radiation Oncologist is responsible for consultation, simulation, planning, managing patients undergoing treatment (on-treatment visits), and follow-ups.Utilizes various radiation modalities to include both photons and electrons, as well as mixed beam techniques.Monitors treatment delivery and follow up on post-treatment progress.Practices radiation safety to reduce exposure to patients, staff, and self, in compliance with department and VA radiation safety procedures to maintain occupational exposures "as low as reasonable achievable" (ALARA).Performs Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT).Conducts patient simulation, radiation treatment plan and prescription.Performs treatment and planning goals.Participates in Research initiatives.Performs residents supervision/education.Participates in tumor boards, weekly dosimetry and chart rounds and participate in QA.Serves as an information resource and radiation oncology expert for colleagues, residents, medical and nursing students and ancillary staffWork Schedule: Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Required to be on Call.
