Sylvan Learning Center - Part-time STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) Teacher Position
Sylvan is offering new STEM programs to get kids excited about robotics, coding, math, and engineering. We're looking for high-energy teachers who are able to create a positive and fun learning environment that will help kids get excited about these 21st century skills! All in a fun, energetic, after-school environment!
The Sylvan STEM Teacher is responsible for creating robust learning experiences for students as well as evaluating student progress on each assignment.
Essential Job Functions Prepares for each instructional session; gathers and prepares materials as appropriateGreets students and initiates instruction to personally engage each studentInstructs students according to the design of the Sylvan STEM programsManages students, tasks and time to create a balanced and robust instructional sessionEvaluates and records the progress of each student on their program assignmentUses praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learnMotivates students with Sylvan motivation criteria given for specific achievements according to the Sylvan STEM instructional management standardsExcited about working with students between the ages of 6 and 18 years of age.Able to effective communicate the value of STEM and how it impact people and the world around us.Has the ability to explain concepts to students in multiple ways.Communicates specific student needs to center staff.Completes certification training on each Sylvan program taught to students STEM Program Teachers: Currently working toward a four-year science or math related degree or already possess one.Must be familiar with basic computer operation and tablet (iPad, Netbook) utilization.Able to work when the kids are out of school. After-school and holiday breaks are important because that is when students come to STEM courses. Skills and Abilities Required Knowledge of general office equipment such as copiers, printers, and office phonesKnowledge of tablet computers preferredProven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learnStrong interpersonal and communication skillsProven ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexibleStrong problem solving and customer service skillsStrong team player
