Job Description / Essential Elements:

ACALANES UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT

CLASS TITLE: FOOD SERVICES ASSISTANT

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, prepare and serve hot and cold food items at an assigned school site; maintain food service facilities, equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Prepare and serve hot and cold food items at an assigned school site according to established guidelines, policies and procedures; assemble various ingredients; heat, package and wrap food items according to established procedures and portion control standards.

Set up food service area; prepare and set out food and beverages for sale and distribution; distribute meals to students and staff; count and set-up plates, trays and utensils; stock condiments, food items, paper goods and other supplies as needed.

Maintain food service facilities, equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition; clean serving areas, counters, tables, food containers, refrigerators and food service equipment; operate dish washers and wash trays, pots, pans, plates, utensils and other serving equipment as assigned.

Perform cashiering duties as assigned; collect and count money and make correct change; prepare, balance and verify cash boxes; operate a cash register as required; maintain related records.

Assist in the receipt, storage and rotation of food items and supplies in storage areas as assigned; assist with inventory activities as directed; open cans and replenish containers as necessary.

Operate standard food service equipment such as ovens, slicers, food carts, can openers and warmers.

Set up, stock and clean assigned food bar as required.

Maintain routine records related to food items, temperatures and assigned activities.

OTHER DUTIES:
Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Basic food preparation including washing, cutting and assembling food items and ingredients.
Sanitation and safety practices related to preparing, handling and serving food.
Standard kitchen equipment, utensils and measurements.
Oral and written communication skills.
Basic math and cashiering skills.
Proper lifting techniques.
Basic record-keeping techniques.

ABILITY TO:
Prepare and serve hot and cold food items at an assigned school site.
Maintain food service facilities, equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition.
Perform cashiering duties as assigned.
Operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
Follow health and sanitation requirements.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Wash, cut, slice and assemble food items.
Work cooperatively with others.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Make basic math computations.
Maintain routine records related to work performed.
Communicate electronically via e-mail.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.

**The Education Code requires that a criminal background check be conducted on all persons prior to employment by a school district to ascertain whether the applicant has been arrested or convicted of any crime.
