POSITION SUMMARY

The Tissue Recovery Shift Lead is integral to providing frontline leadership and continuity of recovery services operations in a 24/7/365 department and for always maintaining a high quality of services to ensure all donor potential is maximized. The Tissue Recovery Shift Lead is responsible for the intraoperative leadership of the recovery team and occasionally for communication to a team of other medical professionals, including hospital personnel, funeral home staff, coroner, or medical examiner professionals. The Tissue Recovery Shift Lead performs other clinical support related responsibilities during their scheduled shift on an as needed basis.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Present and communicative during entirety of shift performing as Shift Lead for entire designated service area.Triages case activity and prioritizes workload based off critical times, staffing levels, skillsets, and other logistical factors. Dispatches case activity to multiple teams across designated service area and answers questions from the tissue and operations teams, and to others involved in recovery activity. Establishes and maintains advanced knowledge of medical terminology and general anatomy.Reviews policies, procedures, and trainings, as directed, to maximize donation. Attends and actively participates in department and organization meetings.Learns and maintains advanced knowledge of federal, state, and industry laws/regulations related to tissue practices including those of all tissue processors, AATB, OSHA, EBAA, and FDA. Assists with other department job duties such as data entry, helping to resolve work stoppages, Electronic Chart Review (ECR) corrections, responds to requests from Donation Program Liaison (DPL) team and requests from processors or other partners. Participates in departmental growth and improvement activities and can serve as a resource to other departments.Accurately records tissue recovery data across multiple software platforms.Supports frontline staff by packing for tissue recovery cases and compiling pre-recovery paperwork.May help clean and set up tissue recovery room(s), remove trash, biohazard waste, decontaminate surgical instruments and prepare for sterilization.May assist with donor intake and release process.Initiates review of serological testing on donors being held at any DNW facility, upon review tissue is either shipped to processing partner, media changed to preserve viability or discarded according to established procedures. When necessary, participates in the recovery of tissue(s).May cover the call answering responsibilities of the Tissue Leader on Call role.Assists with case observation activities for prospective hires.Supports Learning and Development activities where appropriate.Assists with data entry or data processing projects.May have other duties that support the ability of the recovery team to efficiently move from case to case as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to function independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated problem-solving and creative thinking skill and well-developed personal stress management skills.Ability to operate telephones, computers, and related equipment.Ability to speak and communicate, to accurately convey information to internal DNWest staff, hospital staff, processing partners, and others involved in the donation process clearly and effectively. Ability to establish and maintain relationships with these individuals.Ability to handle exposure to emotionally intense situations like death, grief and the death process on a regular basis that includes pediatric and adult donors. Some scenarios surrounding death and donation may be of a traumatic nature.Must maintain a valid driver's license in accordance with DNWest motor vehicle policy. Must have reliable personal automobile transportation to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines. Employee may be required to drive personal vehicle while functioning in the role. Must be able to travel within the service area by ground or air. Ability to work minimum of a 12-hour shift, with the requirement of staying past shift when required by donor volume and staffing, with few breaks. The department schedule may change over time to meet staffing needs for tissue recovery. The schedule includes 7, 12-hr shifts per pay period. The employee is required to work weekends (defined as Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), nights and holidays. Holiday requirement includes work on 5 holiday shifts per calendar year. Ability to handle confidentiality of all donor/recipient information.Demonstrate excellence in clinical and/or operational work.Able to communicate with clarity and kindness and able to both give and receive constructive feedback. Awareness of, or willingness to learn the basics of adult learning theory.Maintains recovery performance metrics that are consistent with department goals for low contamination, high yield, and low error rates in tissue recovery. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Associate' degree in biological sciences/allied healthcare/ mortuary science, or completion of a surgical technology program, or an emergency medical services program.2 years of work experience in a related field may be substituted for educational requirement. Must maintain a valid California or Nevada driver's license and current vehicle insurance based on applicable state minimum insurance coverage standards.Meet the expectations for the Tissue Recovery Coordinator II essential job duties and responsibilities. Has achieved or able to immediately meet sign off as Team Leader by Donor Network West tissue recovery supervisor or above.Hospital/clinical experience: previous experience with sterile technique and surgical procedures preferred.

$34.23 - $38.03 an hour
