Founded in 1972 Children's Services of Roxbury's (CSR) mission is to provide high quality services to economically disadvantaged children, youth, families, and individuals thereby promoting and strengthening family life and individual growth. CSR serves approximately 6,000 families across Massachusetts, serving families through four key services areas; Early Education and Care, Behavioral Health Services, Youth and Family Services and Housing and Stabilization. There are 22 programs operating under those four services areas. CSR operates across in 4 cities, has a staff of 400 employees, and an operating budget of $28M.
OVERVIEW:
Mental health is the key to personal well-being, family and interpersonal relationships, and contributing to society. Our Behavioral Health Department (BHD) offers a comprehensive array of high quality, culturally-sensitive mental health services that provide children and families with the services they need for success at home, in school, and in the community. We specialize in working with children of color and families from many cultures, languages and nationalities. Our services are individualized to meet the specific needs of each child and family, building on their strengths and supporting their goals.
Position Summary: "YGTC" Program Director directs the operation of "YGTC" in which Youth and Young Adults (YGTC) with lived experience of mental health conditions, substance abuse, homelessness choose to join as participants and work collaboratively on their future goals along with a Young Adult Peer Mentor (YAPM). The YGTC Program Director provides leadership that creates the culture of a unified network of transition and future planning supports and activities and establishes a low barrier for access to supports, with a particular emphasis on effective engagement. Additionally, the YGTC Program Director provides leadership and consultation to participants and staff while striving to meet high quality standards and provide excellent value to participants. The YGTC Program Director will provide outreach to various stakeholders in the community to educate them about YGTC services and supports. These stakeholders include schools, social service providers state agencies, families, and including those from diverse cultures, backgrounds or who may be struggling with their sexual or gender identity.
Responsibilities Create a center of healing that responds to the unique needs and interests of young adults who have had multiple Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), mental health and substance use challenges. Ensure that CSR's wraparound philosophy and values of individualized, culturally responsive, youth-driven care is embodied and reflected in all aspects of the program.Create a welcoming culture that celebrates each young adult's whole self and multiple identities. Supervise, and coach all YGTC staff, using the Young Adult Peer Mentor practice profile.Oversee YGTC's leadership development program. Develop a Leaders Council, ensuring young adult voice in decision-making on policies and program. Convene open Community Meetings to engage young adult in co-creating the YAAC program. Train young leaders to facilitate these meetings. Respond to the feedback and guidance of young adults.Convene a monthly Member Review process to ensure that every participating young adult is connected to at least one staff member. Support team to develop strategies on concerns around specific young adults.Develop and institute policies and practices that ensure the safety of young adults and staff in the program, in partnership with the Young Leaders Council, and with input and approval of the Senior Director of Therapeutic & YGTC. With the young adults, create a "YAAC Members Agreement", a contract that addresses among other safety issues: weapons, drugs and interpersonal conflict. Create a process that ensures an open, welcoming culture while also ensuring safety. Ensure YAAC staff receives culturally informed trainings and annual refreshers on the following topics: Core Elements of Young Adult Peer Mentoring, Transition to Independence Process, Beats, Rhymes and Life, Motivational Interviewing, Self-Care Strategies, Safety Planning policies and practices, Self-harm, suicidality and first episode psychosis, Substance use and recovery, Youth leadership development, Unique needs of LGBTQ young adults, Unique needs of refugee young adults, Domestic violence, Youth trafficking, other as needed. Facilitate staff participation in ongoing Behavioral Health Department trainings. Invite participation of young leaders as appropriate. Ensure that YGTC staff receive weekly reflective clinical supervision from a licensed trained clinician. Qualifications: A minimum of a High School Diploma/GED. Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred A minimum of 3-5 years' experience working in behavioral health leadership/management roles in community-based settings (educational, social service, juvenile justice, and/or mental health settings) supporting youth and young adults with achieving career, educational and housing goals Extensive knowledge of the unique needs of young adults facing mental health and other challenges.Lived experience with trauma (homelessness, violence, LGBTQ+, racial, disrupted family), mental health, substance abuse, recovery and resiliency. Willing to share their lived experience with the purpose and intent to facilitate groups and provide individual coaching to the YAAC youth and young adultsGood judgment and the ability to maintain effective boundaries when interacting with all members of the staff and community at large. Ability to interact with a variety of individuals.Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.Ability to reason effectively and interpret a variety of instructions, written and oralExcellent organizational, writing and communication skills.Ability to successfully complete the TIP training within the first 3-months of hireKnowledge of motivational Interviewing techniques preferredMust have a clear CORI or waiver based on review of individual circumstancesMust have valid driver's license without any restrictions and access to reliable vehicleMust provide three references (at least two from a comparable professional setting)Members of LGBTQ+ community are strongly encouraged to apply Response to Covid-19
