ANESTHESIA ASSOCIATE SRNA PROGRAM DIRECTOR - (3300019)

GENERAL OVERVIEW The Assistant SRNA Program Director is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the SRNA educational program. The Assistant SRNA Program Director provides clinical and didactic support to the School of Nurse Anesthesia student population (SRNAs). Assures the smooth day-to-day clinical responsibilities required by the school and the Department of Anesthesia. The Assistant SRNA Program Director collaborates with Chief CRNA and Clinical Director to maintain the goal of overseeing student education. She/he is directly responsible to Chief CRNA.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES SRNA Clinical assignments. Orientation to the policies and procedures of the facility. Assess student clinical case and professional development needs on a regular basis. Act as a liaison between students, faculty, and administration. Meet with students on a regular basis to discuss clinical progression. Meet with faculty on a regular basis to discuss student clinical progression. Direct patient care. In addition to acting as the Assistant SRNA Program Director, this individual will be responsible for OR duties performed by a Staff CRNA. Provide preoperative evaluation of a patient's readiness for surgery. Discuss anesthetic options, benefits, and risks and obtain patient/surrogate's consent for the anesthetic and perioperative procedures. Review a patient's medical history. In collaboration with the physician director of anesthesia services or his/her qualified anesthesiologist designee, determine appropriate anesthetic plan. Prepare and evaluate the safety of anesthetic equipment, supplies, and drugs. Conduct the induction and maintenance of anesthesia under the direction of an appointed qualified anesthesiologist designee. Administer general and regional anesthesia and Monitored Anesthesia Care. Insert invasive monitoring lines required for an anesthetic and interpret the data. Monitor the life support functions of the patient during the period of anesthesia or surgery as needed. Assess, interpret, and treat physiologic responses to anesthesia, surgery, or other events that include oxygenation, circulation, and ventilation. Keep the physician anesthetist assigned to supervise the case informed of the patient's condition. Record pertinent information concerning anesthetic course on the patient's clinical record. Provide observation and care in the immediate postoperative period until a report of pertinent information has been given and the RN or MD covering the appropriate recovery area or ICU has accepted responsibility for the patient's care. The Assistant SRNA Program Director ensures SRNAs are providing safe quality care. Directly communicates with Chief CRNA and School of Nurse Anesthesia to develop action plans to support SRNAs if clinical deficits are noted. Coordination Acts as the Assistant SRNA Program Director for all affiliated SRNA and CRNA education programs. Participates in and provides leadership to appropriate BWH committees related to SRNA education. Directly communicates with the Nursing Clinical Coordinator to ensure proper onboarding and documentation for all SRNAs. Management Develops, reviews, and revises educational and clinical guidelines related to the SRNA education as appropriate. Manage, hire, and terminate SRNA staff. Responsible for evaluation orientation, practice, and patient care of SRNAs. Responsible for SRNA development, action plans, and corrective action. Plans orientation program for new SRNAs and CRNAs; and oversees their performance. Promotes and encourages professional SRNA development. QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, and CERTIFICATION Graduate of an accredited master's level CRNA program. Current CRNA certification. Current Massachusetts license as RN with authorization to practice in the expanded role of CRNA. Possesses current CRNA privileges to provide anesthesia in the clinical agency assigned. Experience Experience in managing educational programs for SRNAs preferred. Minimum 2-years practice in all aspects of Anesthesia Nursing including experience in a teaching hospital as faculty and/or clinical preceptor. Demonstrated leadership/managerial capabilities in CRNA practice. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES SRNAs
