Job Description The Assistant Director of Admissions assists the Office of Admissions in its effort to attract and build relationships with potential students through a variety of related responsibilities. Several of the key responsibilities include oversight of an assigned recruitment territory and constituent group, engagement in team-based recruitment initiatives, one-on-one contact with prospective students and parents during on and off-campus recruitment activities, using phone, email, and direct mail correspondence to communicate with key stakeholders, representing the institution at professional and educational events, presenting information sessions, evaluating applications, counseling prospective students and parents on the admissions and aid process, and processing admissions documents.
Essential Functions: Manage a domestic recruitment territory - including travel, college fair receptions, information sessions, high school visits, and electronic outreach.Conduct a holistic review of all first-year applications from the assigned recruitment region to continuously improve outcomes and be an active voice in the application review process.Perform information sessions on-campus and off-campus and serve as a resource for campus visitors on a regular basis.Support various projects and programs, as determined by the supervisor and the cyclical needs of the office.Conduct interviews with candidates for admission.Travel in the U.S. 4-6 weeks in the fall and 1-2 weeks in the spring, including nights and weekends.Participate in regular outbound email/call campaigns, particularly to yield students.Participate in office meetings as required, virtually or on-campus as directed.Perform other duties and/or responsibilities as assigned or required.Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 2-5 years of experience in a higher education setting or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.Track record of being a self-starter with demonstrated ability to take initiative, exercise good judgment, and work autonomously.Must have excellent public speaking, written, and verbal skills to support relationship-building with prospective students and other constituents.Skill and sensitivity to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion as they affect the college admissions process; a demonstrated commitment to building a strong and diverse applicant pool; and an awareness of how systemic economic and racial inequity in students' secondary school backgrounds impacts their application to college.Available to work weekends and evenings as needed to participate in recruitment activities.Computer skills - proficiency with Microsoft applications is required; experience with Slate Technolutions is preferred.A valid driver's license is required.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Demonstrate the ability and motivation to oversee recruitment in a target geographic area and with a target student population.Consistently exhibit exceptional customer service through proactive engagement with prospective students, parents, and guidance counselors.Ability to maintain confidentiality and secure sensitive information.Ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings, and other non-traditional schedules.Ability to work independently, prioritize, and manage competing tasks timely and successfully with and without direct supervision.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Demonstrated strong process management skills, organizational skills, problem-solving, and decision-making.Must be organized, an excellent communicator, and a collaborator, with the ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines.
