The City of Lake Forest is seeking to fill one (1) full-time Associate Planner position in the Planning Division of the Community Development Department. This role offers the opportunity to work on impactful projects that help shape the future of our city.

Has experience in planning: You have worked with a City, County, or government agency, or a private firm specializing in urban planning or a related field. Communicates effectively: You have excellent written and verbal skills, and can produce clear and compelling reports and presentations for boards and commissions. Understands technical plans: You can read, interpret, and create basic plans, drawings, and sketches. Navigates building and zoning codes: You understand and can explain building and zoning codes, permit processes, fees, and required documents. Simplifies complexity: You have the ability to break down and explain complex rules and regulations in plain language to diverse audiences. Thrives under pressure: You excel in a fast-paced, rewarding team environment where you tackle challenges head-on with a positive attitude. Key Responsibilities Review and process applications for land use permits and zoning approvals. Interpret and apply local, state, and federal regulations, zoning ordinances, and general plans. Prepare reports and presentations for the Planning Commission, City Council, and other governing bodies. Coordinate with city departments, the public, and other stakeholders on planning projects and city initiatives. Assist in long-range planning efforts, including the creation and maintenance of city development plans. Qualifications Experience in urban planning, city planning, or a related field. Ability to understand and interpret planning-related laws and regulations. Strong communication skills to interact effectively with diverse groups. Familiarity with land use planning principles, practices, and zoning requirements. Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Public Administration, or a related field is preferred.
