Billing Specialist

Job Description Summary:
PR Colorectal Specialists is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to join our team in Ponce, Puerto Rico. As a Medical Billing Specialist, you will be vital in ensuring accurate billing processes, handling insurance claims, and working closely with our medical team to streamline financial operations.
Responsibilities:
Submit accurate and timely insurance claims for medical procedures and services.
Review and process billing statements, including CPT and ICD coding.
Track and follow up on submitted claims, ensuring timely reimbursement.
Handle denied claims, resubmissions, and appeals.
Communicate effectively with insurance companies, patients, and medical staff regarding billing issues and inquiries.
Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Ensure billing procedures adhere to all local, state, and federal guidelines.
Prepare and analyze billing reports and metrics.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
Minimum of 2 years
of experience in medical billing, preferably in a
surgical practice
.
Knowledge of medical billing software, electronic health records (EHR) like NeoMed and/or ECW, and insurance systems such as Assertus and Inmediata.
Strong understanding of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding.
Familiarity with Puerto Rico's health insurance plans and regulations is a plus.
Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
