We are seeking a highly motivated data analyst/bioinformatician to help understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying chronic pain and develop novel gene therapies for treating it. Scientific curiosity, the ability to write and implement code (e.g. python, R, bash) to address scientific questions, the ability to visualize results and communicate them with other members in the lab, and strong organizational skills are required. The successful applicant will work closely with the principal investigator on current projects and help develop new projects to pursue independently or in collaboration with other investigators in the lab. There will be ample opportunities to serve as an author/inventor on these studies. Our laboratory uses range of methods that span from animal models/systems neuroscience to single-cell transcriptional/epigenomic analyses, so the types of data generated range from high content imaging to genomics. The successful applicant should have a strong background in at least one of these areas and be passionate about learning new approaches.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Carry out research projects and maintain records of experiments and outcomes.Review literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new procedures and apply learnings to related research.Write and publish scientific findings as applicable. May present at local, national, and international meetings.Manage data organization and compute infrastructure in the lab. Ensure our storage and compute infrastructure keeps up with data generation needs and is cost-effective.Manage lab github repository and web data resources (e.g. shiny apps).Manage software licenses and services as needed for lab. Assist the principal investigator with onboarding/offboarding and training new users to our compute infrastructure and pipelines.Assist the principal investigator with lab regulatory compliance, safety, and maintenance of data integrity. Meeting regularly with principal investigator to discuss data results, project progress, and lab data management.Provide general lab support as needed. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in biology or a related discipline is required. College-level or above statistics course.Minimum of 3 years of experience.Proficiency with UNIX, R and/or Python.Experience with training machine learning models in any data domain (genomics preferred). SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Ability to work independently and with a multidisciplinary team.Proficiency with UNIX, R and/or Python.Proficiency with data visualization.Proficiency with github and shiny apps (or related web data visualization platform).Good oral and written communication skills. The successful applicant should be comfortable presenting their work through oral presentations and written reports.Analytical skills and the ability to resolve technical or research problems and issues and to interpret data.Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.Careful attention to detail and code documentation. WORKING CONDITIONS:
The successful application will have a dry lab desk to work, which is located in the Hale Building for Transformative Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Copious amounts of coffee, tea, and compute resources are available to all lab members.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible for supervising and orienting/training new lab members to compute infrastructure and pipelines.
