SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE: The Biotherapeutics Lab Manager supports our Biotherapeutics team. This position is primarily responsible for critical activities, including ordering supplies and stocking, inventory tracking, lab safety, and equipment maintenance and repair.
This is an on-site role (5 days a week) based at our Alameda, CA location.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for lab supply inventory management including ordering, stocking, and helping to establish on-site stocking programs with our Procurement department.
Maintain, calibrate, and schedule needed servicing of lab equipment and instrumentation.
Ensure excellent lab safety standards and compliance via participation in mandatory trainings, conducting weekly inspections, and collaborating with our EH&S partners.
May also conduct trainings as needed.
Manage group inventory and safety records, including managing waste streams.
Support the Antibody and Protein production group by managing their plasmid and protein inventory including data entry and request tracking.
Apply general scientific and technical expertise to identify and help to implement general lab process improvements.
Effectively collaborate with scientific staff members within all Biotherapeutics groups and facilitate interactions with Facilities, EH&S, Procurement, and IT to ensure efficient and successful lab operations.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Education:
Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience; or,
Master's degree in a related discipline and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience; or,
PhD degree in a related experience and zero to two years of relevant experience; or
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:
Drug discovery experience is necessary with at least two years (2) of industry experience with an excellent understanding of fundamental processes.
Experience with the operation of various lab equipment and automated instrumentation is required.
Highly self-motivated with exceptional attention to detail is required.
Knowledge/Skills: Experience in managing stock rooms and scientific instrumentation.
Demonstrated knowledge of lab safety issues, including biohazard, chemical hazard, and waste management.
General knowledge of operation and troubleshooting of various equipment and liquid handling automation, including refrigeration units, balances, plate readers, imagers, and dispensers.
General knowledge of laboratory inventory and request database systems.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong record-keeping and organizational skills.
Ability to multi-task and excellent time management skills.
Ability to provide high level of customer support including solving problems and communicating status in a timely manner.
Ability to build strong working relationships at all levels within the Biotherapeutics group.
General knowledge of molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or chemistry techniques, theories, and practices.
General understanding of how individual experiments fit within a larger research program to meet organizational goals.
Excellent work ethic, working effectively in both a team environment and independently.
Thorough proficiency in MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Primarily working in laboratory and office environment.
Potential handling of biological and chemical hazardous materials. There may be brief periods of working in both 4C and -20C environments.
On call 24/7 for any emergency alarm notifications and any needed resolutions.May be required to work weekends as needed.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across severalU.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this positionis $113,000 - $161,000 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate's geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors.
