This pivotal role requires a proven, visionary leader with strong scientific and research credentials, particularly in the behavioral and social sciences as they apply to public policy on human-environment interactions. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the board, developing and maintaining an interdisciplinary portfolio of projects, and providing leadership in all aspects of the board's work. This includes overseeing the management of complex projects, maintaining relationships with sponsors, and advancing a culture of respect, diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Director will also be at the forefront of pursuing new lines of research that contribute to the understanding of environmental change and its societal impacts, such as community climate resilience, social justice, and equity in scientific endeavors.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field, with a minimum of ten years of professional experience, five of which should be in a supervisory capacity. The role demands a candidate with a strong track record of impact in the advancement of science or policy and the ability to operate with substantial independence and judgment. Essential skills include the ability to solve complex problems, operate effectively in a team environment, and develop and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Experience in environmental justice, equity, or evidence-based community-engaged work is a plus. The Director will work closely with a diverse group of top scientific and technical experts, volunteer board members, and a mission-driven staff, and must be dedicated to fostering a collaborative and excellent work environment.
