Summary
As a Certified Nursing Assistant at our Medical Special Needs Shelters (MSNS) operated by the Louisiana Department of Health, you will play a critical role in providing care to individuals affected by disaster incidents who have medical needs they cannot manage themselves and nowhere to evacuate. MSNS shelters provide temporary living arrangements and safe refuge for these individuals.
Duties: Provide personal hygiene assistance to patients, including bathing, shaving, teeth brushing, nail care, and hair combing.Assist patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as dressing, transferring, ambulating, feeding, and toileting.Take vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and blood glucose readings, and accurately record them in medical records.Conduct patient weigh-ins and maintain appropriate documentation.Assist during emergency treatment situations as required.Foster positive relationships with patients, families, medical staff, volunteers, and coworkers.Transport patients for diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.Support patient education efforts as part of the team.Safely use lifts and transfer devices to move patients.Identify and report potential safety hazards, initiating emergency protocols when necessary.Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of patient rooms, equipment, and unit areas to uphold a safe environment.Participate in all mandatory training and response management activities.Perform additional job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications and Skills: High school diploma or equivalent.Active and unrestricted CNA certification or license.Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and other relevant certifications.Completion of a nursing assistant course or equivalent education.Minimum of one year of emergency response experience.Ability to support a 24/7 shelter operation.Ability to work safely in compliance with safety regulations.Collaborative approach to enhance safety culture and quality.Capable of lifting 50 pounds and performing physical tasks.Strong multitasking, organizational, and communication skills.Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively within a team.Proficiency in English; additional languages may be advantageous.Willingness to respond to designated locations within 72 hours when required. Possible site locations may include but are not limited to the following cities in the state of Louisiana: New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Alexandra, Lake Charles, Lafayette, Thibodaux. Hammond, Monroe and Bossier City.
