Grant Thornton is seeking a Chief Tax Officer (Managing Director) to join the team in Downers Grove, IL. As the Chief Tax Officer, you'll pivot between overall business perspectives and hands-on- transformational leadership. This position will be responsible for establishing, implementing and maintaining the firm' s overarching tax strategies and policies to complement firm's operations and be the focal leadership point in collaboration with the CFO, Tax Matters Partner and other firm leaders to modernize, transform and update the current approach– all with the resources, environment and support to help you excel. Your day-to-day may include: Evaluate current state and develop a detailed framework and strategy along with other key strategic business leaders (e.g., CFO, CEO, COO, GC) relative to the overall approach to tax strategies for the firm. Drive quality and seamless delivery through all aspects of the reporting and compliance process (e.g., federal, state/local, indirect, international, partnership K-1 process, etc.). Proactively engages the business leaders and other subject matter experts with the firm on key issues; assess and manage risks and opportunities; quarterback tax function operations from inception to execution & reporting. Develop extensive knowledge of the firm's partnership agreement, partner compensation & benefits, risk management strategies and governance protocols and proactively provide strategic guidance relative to potential opportunities for refinements or adjustments to achieve preferred outcomes Provide the on-the-ground and day-to-day leadership for the Tax Function / Team and drive efficiencies and transformation through a leader-led technology enablement and process transformation Support the firm's efforts to identify, hire, develop and retain top tax function talent to support the overall firm objectives Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Stay updated on the latest international and domestic tax laws and regulations to ensure quality work. Identify and manage tax risks, ensuring the firm is protected from potential liabilities. Implement internal controls and procedures to safeguard against tax-related risks. Working with your team in the office or remotely. Other duties as assigned You have the following technical skills and qualifications: Masters in Tax / Accounting preferred and BA in Tax / Accounting required CPA required AND JD/LLM a plus A minimum of 15+ years of experience (preferably strategic partnership) experience, including experience within the professional services industry Deep expertise in partnership tax accounting topics, concepts and strategies Comprehensive knowledge of US and international tax requirements for partnerships, alternate structures, subsidiaries, etc. Strong and clearly demonstrated executive presence, with proven impeccable business judgement and refined transformational leadership skills Ability to support, collaborate with and effectively communicate across the entire spectrum of leadership roles and all levels of leadership (e.g., Partnership Board, C-Suite, Business Unit Leaders, etc.) Experience leading technology implementations and process improvements in connection with the tax function of a major firm, corporation or business enterprise AND hands on-experience with the most up to date tax software and technology solutions Recognized and proven experience leading a team of diverse professionals with emphasis on the identification and development of top talent Strong analytical skills and ability to perform quantitative analysis and develop business cases. Have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to travel as needed.
