With community residents leading the way, the mission of Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) is to build a strong, sustainable Cypress Hills/East New York, where youth and adults achieve educational and economic success, secure healthy and affordable housing, and develop leadership skills to transform their lives and community.
Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening for one (1) part-time bilingual (Spanish and English) Child Care Enrollment Outreach Worker in the Community Development division. This position involves targeted identification of and outreach to families with children of the appropriate ages to enroll in child care for the 2024-25 school year and for the following 2025-26 school year.
Principal Duties: Cultivate partnerships with childcare providers and public schools in East New York. Conduct deep community engagement and outreach work to support increased enrollment in NYC Child Care, including programs for infants and toddlers and 3K and Pre-K programs. Help organize open houses and parent meetings about the importance of early childhood education. Speak at public meetings (e.g. Parent-Teacher Association meetings) and provide information and set up information tables at parks, health fairs, farmers' markets and other venues where families congregate, Plan targeted recruitment and outreach to families with children. Draft flyers, brochures, fact sheets and social media posts about early childhood services, Provide education to community members about how the enrollment process works. Assist with the submission of childcare applications. Support the selection and assignment process to match eligible children with vacant seats that meet their family's needs. Coordinate with NYC Public Schools to support filling seats in high-vacancy communities and programs. Provide feedback for creating a strategic plan for how we will enroll community members in childcare. Assist with developing strategies for integration of other services. Participate in collaborative meetings and trainings with other community-based organizations (CBOs), RFCUNY, the NYC Human Resources Administration (HRA), NYC Administration for Children's Services (ACS) and other City agencies, and non-profit and philanthropic institutions. Keep confidential records of client information Work as a team with other CHLDC benefits staff Attend team, division, and all-staff meetings Perform other administrative duties as assigned. Position Requirements: Experience in outreach, public speaking and communications, especially with families in East New York. Bilingual (English-Spanish) required Resident of the East New York neighborhood preferred Experience with childcare enrollment and education, with a focus on low-income populations of all ages Computer literacy and willingness and ability to learn new software and databases Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and compassionate listener Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative on your own Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather (rain, shine or snow), sometimes standing and walking for extended periods, and sometimes carrying heavy and bulky items (up to ~25 pounds) High School diploma or equivalency required and 2-4 years relevant experience preferred. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. Work Environment: This position works primarily in the communities of Cypress Hills and East New York, Brooklyn, with some in office settings.
