Work Days and hours would vary between: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm depending on student's schedule.
This is an ongoing internship located in Columbus, OH. The selected candidate will ideally be able to work throughout the school year and summer, for an average of 20 hours per week or less (with flexibility during the school semesters given class schedule and course load).
The pay rate for a college intern is based upon the students' academic status:
Undergraduate student rate of pay - $16.93 per hour
Graduate student rate of pay - $20.59 per hour
Major/field of study should be in: Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Intelligence
Job duties:
• Attend weekly meetings with department communications staff to provide updates on projects.
• Assist with drafting OSSC communications (quarterly newsletters, annual reports, etc.).
• Make recommendations for new marketing materials for the Safer Ohio School Tip Like and help lead student focus groups and campaigns.
• Attend and provide administrative support for the Governor's Ohio School Safety Working Group quarterly meetings, with the opportunity to present to the group.
• Assist with gathering, drafting, and implementing website updates.
• Assist with planning, implementation and marketing of the Annual School Safety Summit.
• Participate in regional school safety discussions and help design toolkits and targeted resources.
• Assist supervisors on projects as needed across the various school safety disciplines (mental health, physical safety, emergency management, cyber security, bullying, etc.).
• Assist with contacting schools on compliance related questions and due dates via email or phone.
• Assist with event planning for school safety events.
• Assist with training development and review.
• Assist with statewide Student Safety Advisory Council.

To be eligible for an internship opportunity at the Ohio Department of Public Safety, an applicant must:
Be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university.
Be in good standing with the college/university.
Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0.
Be enrolled in at least one course.
Be pursuing a degree or finishing a degree.
