Description
To help us in our mission of bringing all people into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ, the Coordinator of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd will oversee and work in collaboration with the parish staff and volunteers, under the direction of the Director of Children's Discipleship, to provide prayerful and Christ-centered curriculum through the Montessori method of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.
RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee Catechesis of the Good Shepherd at the parish, school, and preschool to ensure all offerings are in keeping with the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church, are actively engaged in preaching and teaching the Word of the Lord and drawing others into a deeper relationship with Christ.Coordinate all aspects of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd at the parish.Discern and determine how to best provide opportunities that meet the needs of the children and their families within the atrium (addressing special needs, class times, homeschool families, etc.)Collaborate with the Director of Children's Discipleship to recruit, support, and train catechists, aides, and volunteers.Supervise the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd staff at the parish and school.Coordinate Sacramental preparation for children, including disbursing paperwork and guiding the Reconciliation meditations and Confirmation/First Eucharist retreats.Prepare atrium for each level and liturgical season.Maintain Diocesan certification requirements for catechists.Stay current with all material changes and presentation content from CGSUSA.Obtain/prepare materials and supplies as needed.Respond to emails and phone calls in a timely manner.Any task deemed necessary by the Pastor and/or his delegate.
Requirements
SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES Work collaboratively with CGS staff, parish staff, school principal/staff and families.Attend Discipleship Department meetings and Tuesday staff meetings.Prepare and present presentations for each Atrium sessions as scheduled.Work in accordance with the 32 points of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.Make, repair and restore materials in atria as needed.Collaborate with the Strategic Marketing Specialist to communicate about CGS to the parish, including registration times, program information, the standard time line for sacrament preparation, etc.Coordinate with the parish liturgy team regarding First Reconciliation and the Confirmation/First Eucharist Mass. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED Active member of a Roman Catholic Parish and in good standing with the Church.Must be willing and able to support the mission of the Church, the Pastor, the School and the Diocese of Phoenix. Certified in Level 1, 2 & 3 for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and a min 5 years' experience in the Atrium as a catechist.Possess strong knowledge of Catholic teaching and practice.Must be a self-starter who is able to take the initiative in fulfilling tasks; is organized; has the ability to work independently as well as in a team; make sound judgments and communicate effectively. PERFORMANCE Job performance will be assessed by the Director of Children's Discipleship
