Position Purpose/Summary
Responsible for performing dental hygiene care for patients. Work is performed under the supervision of the Oral Health Program Coordinator. No supervision is exercised over other employees.
Essential Functions Delivers direct patient care including oral prophylaxis, polishing, x-rays, application of fluorides and sealants, and patient education. Assesses dental condition and needs of patient. Conducts medical history review, dental charting, perio charting and taking of vital signs. Supervises STCC dental hygiene students and fills out necessary paperwork for STCC clinical staff. Helps with various outreach programs. Assists in retrieving children from target schools to administer dental treatments as necessary. Performs miscellaneous duties such as weekly spore testing, autoclave and x-ray processor maintenance, etc. Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of routine dental office procedures. Knowledge of patient screening, charting, medical history procedures and documentation with an understanding of dental surgery and associated procedures, terminology and techniques. Ability to independently assess the nature and extent of dental periodontal and associated conditions and pathology in dental patients. Ability to analyze medical records and prescribed protocol to formulate effective therapeutic treatment plans. Knowledge of federal, state, OSHA, and institutional regulations and guidelines. Basic computer skills. Ability to sterilize and otherwise care for instruments and equipment. Ability to alleviate patient's anxieties and promote trust and confidence. Customer service skills. Education and ExperienceAssociate's degree in dental hygiene. Minimum of one year of related work. Paid Personal DaysUse up to 3 of your accrued sick days as Personal days. Personal days cannot be rolled over into the next calendar year.
