Position Overview: Director of Finance and Business Operations
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Finance and Business Operations to join our leadership team. This role is crucial for overseeing all financial functions, including controlling and financial planning, while also managing business operations across IT, Legal and People Operations. The ideal candidate will also contribute to strategic and operational projects, marketing, and business development efforts, ensuring the company's smooth and efficient progression from Seed Stage to Series A and beyond.
Roles and Responsibilities Financial Management and Planning: Oversee all financial activities, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. Implement and manage financial systems and controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders. Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to create realistic and achievable budgets. Conduct financial analysis and provide strategic recommendations to the leadership team and board. Controller Functions: Maintain the general ledger, ensuring all financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely. Manage payroll processing, tax compliance, and other financial obligations. Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to prepare annual audits and tax returns. Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to safeguard company assets. Business Operations: Oversee IT operations, ensuring robust and secure technology infrastructure to support business needs. Manage legal affairs, including contract negotiations, compliance, and risk management. Lead HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, training and employee relations. Implement and optimize business processes to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. Operational Projects, Marketing, Strategy and Business Development: Participate in strategic planning and execution of operational projects to support company growth. Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and implement marketing strategies and campaigns. Support business development efforts by providing financial insights and analysis to inform decision-making. Attend industry events to represent Queens Carbon, build industry and investor contacts and build confidence to position us for future fundraising. Analytical Skills and Process Development: Strong ability to analyze financial data, provide actionable insights and systemize through process development. Leadership: Experience in leading cross-functional teams and driving organizational success. Attention to Detail: Meticulous in ensuring accuracy and compliance in all financial and organizational matters. Team Focus: A great team-focused attitude, and a willingness to teach and learn from others. Passion for the Climate: A desire to save the planet and an interest in becoming part of the growing group of climate change innovators. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Finance/Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA or similar experience required. 10+ years of progressive experience in finance and operations, with experience in a startup or similar required. Proven track record in financial planning, budgeting, and analysis, including fundraising and financial projections for a new business. Strong knowledge of financial principles, practices, and regulations. Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a dynamic setting. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong software platform utilization and management skills, including financial software (eg, Quickbooks), Microsoft Office Suite and HR/Expense/Billing/etc. Location: Position is based in Pine Brook, NJ (potential for some flexibility for an ideal candidate)
