Southern Dominion Health System, Inc. is looking for an experienced, dynamic and engaging Director of Nursing (DON). The ideal candidate will have experience in personnel management and nurse leadership in the primary care setting. The Director of Nursing (DON) is charged with providing leadership in all areas relating to the nursing and clinical support operations of the health center. The DON leads the nursing and clinical support staff in the performance of their assigned duties, ensuring continuous quality improvement in all clinical activities, and acts as an integral part of the leadership team of the health center.

Specific duties include:

1. Provides leadership, guidance, and serves as a resource to nurses and other supervised staff. Organizes the nursing and clinical support staff and resources in the provision of healthcare services. Specifies the responsibilities, authority, and working relationships among nursing and clinical support staff.

3. Maintains nurse and clinical support staff scheduling and staffing. Provides direct nursing care to patients as needed in times of staff shortages.

4. Provides, or delegates, the training and orientation necessary for new nursing and clinical support staff. Provides ongoing, hands-on training and in-service to nursing and clinical support staff.

8. Makes recommendations to the CEO regarding the employment, promotion, transfer, and discharge of nursing and clinical support staff and assists with the implementation of all decisions relating to the employment of these staff members and recruitment efforts.

9. Provides a clear and effective flow of information between clinical staff and the management team by conducting periodic department meetings and attending management meetings.

10. Makes recommendations to the CEO regarding the purchase of equipment and supplies needed to provide patient care. Responsible for ordering medical supplies, medication and vaccines, and minor equipment for the clinical department.

11. Strives to maintain a smooth workflow between departments, and collaborates with other department supervisors as necessary.

12. Collaborates and maintains relationships with outside program representatives and vendors as appropriate. Responsible for supervision and oversight of the Medication Assistance Program.

14. Participates as an integral part of the executive team of SDHS, Inc. Assists the executive team in compliance and reporting goals, to include annual and supplemental grant applications, UDS reports and quality measure tracking, value-based care, PCMH activity, policy and procedure revisions, and other necessary projects as needed.

16. Participates in the utilization and continuing developments of the EMR system, and provides related feedback and recommendations to the management team, while serving as a member of the EMR oversight committee.

Essential requirements:

1. Must be licensed with Virginia State Board of Nursing with a current RN license. Bachelors of Nursing degree preferred.

2. Minimum of 5 years prior nursing experience, prior supervisory experience is required.

3. Must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques.

4. Personal and professional qualities which will permit the Director of Nursing to work with the staff of the health center and such a manner as to earn their confidence and respect.

5. Demonstrates a strong sense of leadership characteristics and the ability to serve as a mentor and leader to supervised staff.

6. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, that are necessary for carrying out the mission of SDHS, Inc.
