Location: San Francisco Bay Area Company: My client, a pioneering company in the field of sustainable metal production, is revolutionizing the industry by developing carbon-neutral methods for producing magnesium metal directly from seawater and brines. This innovative approach significantly reduces the environmental impact traditionally associated with metal production. With strong backing from top investors and a substantial partnership with the U.S. Department of Defense, the company aims to drastically reduce the socio-environmental effects of producing structural metal. About the Role: As the Director of Operations, you will lead the manufacturing operations to deliver carbon-neutral light metal made from seawater to customers. You will oversee all aspects of the production operations team, including building up a world-class facilities maintenance and EH&S program. The Director of Operations will have the opportunity to deliver real products that address significant environmental and national security challenges. Compensation and Benefits: Salary $120,000 to $170,000 (based on experience) Comprehensive health insurance (costs fully covered by the employer). Generous stock option package. Relocation support. Bonuses 401k match Key Responsibilities: Build asset care and maintenance processes to ensure process performance and reliability, including managing minor CAPEX and revenue engineering projects. Develop and implement operational excellence, environmental health and safety, and facilities policies and procedures for efficient operation. Define clear scopes of work for outsourced contractors, ensuring all external work meets standards and operational goals. Lead a team of R&D technicians and operators responsible for operating, monitoring, and improving the existing pilot. Collaborate with the Director of Engineering and Director of Technology to achieve technology goals. Plan and oversee facilities to accommodate growth, including coordinating maintenance, repairs, upgrades of equipment, infrastructure, and leading procurement. Requirements: Minimum 5 years of practical experience in a similar manufacturing or industrial role, either in large-scale or start-up production. Strong knowledge of facility operations, maintenance best practices, and safety regulations in California. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Preferred: University degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.
