The Director of Procurement and Supply Chain for Optum Massachusetts is responsible for overseeing the procurement, supply chain management, and vendor relationship functions across Optum Massachusetts. This role, in partnership with the corporate and regional procurement teams will develop and execute strategies to optimize sourcing, purchasing, and vendor management processes, ensuring cost-effectiveness, quality, and timely delivery of goods and services. The Director, reporting to the VP of Operations Support for Optum Massachusetts will work closely with cross-functional teams across the organization to drive continuous improvement, mitigate risks, and support the company's overall business objectives
The Director of Procurement and Supply Chain will manage a small group of non-clinical staff, including subordinate supervisors and managers. They will provide direction and support to staff to assure departmental effectiveness and efficiency. Responsibilities include interviewing, selecting, orienting and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; reviewing personnel actions of subordinates and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Primary Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and implement procurement and supply chain strategies aligned with regional and corporate objectives
Lead the Procurement and Supply Chain Team, providing guidance, mentoring, and professional development opportunities
Collaborate with senior leadership to align supply chain and procurement strategies with business goals
Understands industry trends and consider strategic direction for Optum Massachusetts Procurement and Supply opportunities
Procurement Management:
Oversee the procurement process, including sourcing, negotiation, contract management, and purchasing activities that align with regional and corporate vision
Establish policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Optum's ethical standards
Optimize procurement processes to drive cost savings, improve quality, and reduce lead times
Supply Chain Management:
Manage end-to-end supply chain operations, including demand planning, inventory management, logistics, and distribution
Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor supply chain performance and drive continuous improvement
Ensure effective coordination between supply chain, production, and sales teams to meet Optum requirements as a customer
Vendor Contract Management:
Negotiate, review, and manage vendor contracts to ensure favorable terms, cost efficiency, and risk mitigation
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key vendors, fostering collaboration and longterm partnerships
Monitor vendor performance, address issues proactively, and implement corrective actions as needed
Drive savings across Optum Massachusetts by consolidating vendors across the regional
Manage vendor provided service maintenance agreements and drive cost savings by improving terms or using alternative options to manage service on equipment
Risk Management:
Identify and mitigate risks related to procurement and supply chain activities, including supply disruptions, quality issues, and compliance concerns
Develop contingency plans to address potential supply chain disruptions and ensure business continuity
Cost Management and Optimization:
Implement cost reduction initiatives through strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, and process improvements
Conduct regular spend analysis to identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency gains
Technology and Innovation:
Leverage technology and data analytics to enhance procurement and supply chain operations
Drive the adoption of digital tools and platforms to improve transparency, efficiency, and decision-making
Team Development and Leadership:
Build and lead a high-performing procurement and supply chain team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement
Provide training and development opportunities to enhance the skills and knowledge of the team
Reporting and Communication:
Prepare regular reports and presentations for executive management on procurement and supply chain performance
Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and partners to ensure alignment and collaboration

Required Qualifications:
7+ years of experience supply chain management and procurement
5+ years of experience in a leadership position
Solid negotiation, contract management, and vendor relationship management skills
Proficiency in supply chain management software, procurement tools, and data analytics
Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on continuous improvement
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional certification such as Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), or equivalent
Experience in healthcare
