Overview:
Provides and/or arranges for pediatric and young adult orientation and training programs, in-service, education and other educational programs for the development of facility personnel. Provides orientation to nursing staff, provides in-services and educational programs. Works closely with all departments to monitor, control and prevent infections at the facility.

Supports a clinical practice environment where nursing staff provides exceptional care for the pediatric residents. Creates and supports an environment of staff engagement and involvement to support a professional practice environment. Participates in the creating policies, procedures and regulatory requirements and assures all team members are knowledgeable in these areas. Adheres to infection control standard and safety policies. Establishes and maintains a systematic process for ensuring all nursing staff documentation is done in accordance with facility policy and procedure. Formulates, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures for the facility wide in-service programs. Prepares annual calendar and master schedule of mandatory and other pertinent in-service programs. Schedules, conducts, and arranges mandatory and other in-services for all staff. Prepares the monthly in-service calendars and distributes them to all departments. Keeps abreast of and recommends training resources to department. In conjunction with Human Resources and Department Heads conducts and /or arranges facility orientation for all new employees. Conducts orientation for Nursing staff. Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, plans, organizes and promotes the standards of nursing practices. Establishes and organizes all documentation regarding in-service programs. This includes but is not limited to: Minutes of meeting Records of attendance Lesson Plans Content of lessons and resources uses. Summary of in-service evaluations Provides monthly summary of all activities to Director of Nursing. Works closely with the Quality Assurance Coordinator Safety Committees. Collaborates with Infection Control, Pharmacy, and Quality Departments. Assists in formulating long and short term with goals within the clinical areas as participates in evaluation of the results. Conducts unit rounds to determine current and future needs for in-services to ensure provision of quality care. Assists Unit Nurses in maintaining standards of practice for resident care. Communicates and collaborates with all member of resident care team to provide optimum care to our residents. Monitors Nursing employees adherence to facility policies related to wound care, meal service, safeguarding of controlled medications, provision of resident care, etc. Inspects Nursing Service areas and monitor practices for compliance with current applicable regulations, on regular basis. Assists in identifying and correcting problem area and or improvement of services. Has an active role in identifying and addressing quality issues, and implementing corrective action and plan as necessary. Participates in programs designed for in-service education and orientation classes for new Nursing Department Hires, as well as ongoing in-service education programs. As part of assessing staff competence, randomly monitors and reviews the documentation on new admission making certain that documentation was done correctly. Communicates on a regular basis with Director of Nursing to assure problems are solved and opportunities for improvement are identified. Collaborates with off shift and other administrative personnel to assure consistency of practice across all three shifts on a continual basis. Performs other responsibilities as deemed necessary and appropriate or as may be directed by the department director or administrator for continuity of care or benefit of the facility.
Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited RN program. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, required. Experience: Acute or Long Term Pediatric Experience preferred Ventilator experience preferred. Has previous experience in in-service education. Knowledge and Skills: Ability to make effective presentations and facilitate learning. Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with all levels of personnel. Demonstrated skills in nursing expertise, team leadership, leading educational initiatives and project management. Strong organization skills, self-starting initiative, and high belief in the change process. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and using Audio/Visual equipment. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently. Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies. Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this Center which includes a medical and physical examination. Licensure and Certifications: Current NY State RN License, required. Current BCLS certification, PALS Certification preferred. Physical Requirements: Physically demanding, high-stress environment requiring prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day. Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds. Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the residents blood/body fluids. Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary. May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
