Position Summary: Under direction of the Head Cook, the Dishwasher/Food Server supports the district's mission by preparing and serving school lunches and keeping dishes, utensils, and appliances clean on a timely basis at their assigned location. The Dishwasher/Food Server works to maintain a harmonious, clean, and orderly work environment and ensure the highest possible customer satisfaction in an atmosphere of warmth and service to others.

Terms of Employment: 182 days per year; 2.5 hours per day, every day that school lunch is served. The current schedule is 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on regular student attendance days; 11:45 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. on late start Wednesdays. This position does not work on early release days. Schedules are subject to change based on the needs of the district.

This position is covered by the SEIU Collective Bargaining Agreement. A valid Food Worker Card is required upon hire. The successful candidate for the position must be fingerprinted. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check and clearance by the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Follow established standards for food service with an emphasis on appeal, nutrition, efficiency and sanitation Serve meals in accordance with established standards and fast-paced production schedules Prepare for meal services by preparing breakfast, lunch and/or washing fruit as needed Clean dishes, utensils, and assigned appliances in accordance with established standards and fast-paced production schedules Assist the Head Cook in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and safety in the kitchen; ensure that the assigned kitchen is clean, neat, and orderly; report broken or unsafe equipment and safety hazards in a timely manner Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community partners Attend required trainings Maintain a neat, clean personal appearance and traits of a good role model for students; work apparel should be appropriate for a safe and professional work environment Provide a safe learning environment for all students Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position Perform other related duties as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training and Experience High School diploma or equivalent Must meet the USDA training standards for all school nutrition program employees Valid Food Handler's card required Successful completion of a basic skills assessment may be required prior to offer of employment Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to provide exceptional customer service Highly organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a diverse population of staff, students, families, and community members while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor and supporting an atmosphere of warmth, cooperation and service to others Demonstrated ability to treat all staff, students, parents, and community members with dignity Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students and staff Strong self-initiative with an ability to work independently with minimal supervision Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a flexible and cooperative manner in order to build and maintain effective teams and partnerships Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member and analyze situations to define issues, draw conclusions, and determine resolutions and/or action plans Punctual, with the ability to meet deadlines, adapt quickly to change and maintain flexibility in a dynamic work environment Ability to maintain confidentiality in all district matters Understand and implement district safety procedures Ability to incorporate working knowledge of Board Policies E-1 through E-4 into daily practice Ability to learn and follow school district policies and procedures ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to lift and/or move 50 lbs. with assistance Ability to push and/or pull items such as tables and bulk food carts Extended periods of standing and walking with frequent squatting, stooping, kneeling, reaching above the head and reaching forward are required Frequent twisting of the upper torso and neck Significant hand strength and dexterity are required to perform such functions as grasping and holding utensils and carrying pots and pans Salary: $20.03/hour after successful completion of a probationary period of 60 days or 480 hours of employment (whichever is less), per the Board approved salary schedule and the SEIU Collective Bargaining Agreement. The probationary pay rate for the first 60 days/480 hours is $18.03/hour. Salary rates thereafter are based on the SEIU Salary Schedule.

Benefits: Paid leave benefits include two (2) days of personal leave and ten (10) days of sick leave per school year, pro-rated based on the employee's hire date. Paid holidays include: Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day following Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, President's Day, and Memorial Day. Labor Day is a paid holiday when the start of school precedes the holiday or when an employee returns to a regularly scheduled work week or an approved scheduled day before the holiday. Juneteenth is a paid holiday when the regular workday schedule includes the day immediately preceding the holiday. Additional available paid leave benefits and terms of paid holidays are governed by the SEIU Collective Bargaining Agreement. Upon working 630 hours in a school year, eligible employees and their qualified dependents may be eligible for insurance benefits through School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) which includes, medical, dental, and vision. Employer-paid long-term disability, life and AD&D insurance are available for the employee only. Optional benefits under SEBB include, supplemental life, employee paid long-term disability, FSA and DCAP.
