Convex is transforming the way developers build applications. Our mission is to fundamentally change how software is built on the Internet by empowering developers to create fast, reliable, and dynamic apps without the headaches of complex backend engineering or the hassles of database administration. We provide a cutting-edge, full-stack developer platform that seamlessly combines a powerful custom database with an integrated execution environment.
The Team: Convex has assembled a team of technologists who have built and designed some of the largest backends in the world, with exabytes of data, millions of transactions per second, and shipped desktop and mobile software onto billions of devices. We are a group of friendly, collaborative, and passionate individuals that love working in-person together in our offices in SF and NYC.
The Role: We are looking to hire a Product Engineering Leader who can manage a team effectively and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves to be technically hands-on while our team is still small. In this role, you'll start off juggling both leadership and technical tasks. As we expand, you'll be key in hiring and building out the team.
What you'll do: Lead and manage a full-stack product engineering team
Be a highly technical, hands-on coder as well as an effective people manager
Influence and execute engineering team deliverables and participate in the technical design of our customer-facing products to create the industry's greatest developer platform
Measure the impact of your team and set clear expectations and goals
Partner with founders and leadership to influence and drive project prioritization, definition, and planning of deliverables for the engineering team.
Who you are: 2+ years of experience successfully leading and managing teams in addition to at least 6 years of software engineering experience, preferably with API design and interactions between servers and clients
Deep technical understanding with an initial expectation that you will be writing some code and learning how to navigate our codebase and engage deeply in design and architecture
Proficiency in navigating through ambiguity and executing with a team-first mindset to drive maximal delivery as an engineering team
Rust and/or Typescript experience is nice to have (most of our backend development is in Rust and our frontend libraries are primarily in Typescript)
