Job Title: Environmental Staff Engineer Job Description
Coordinates the planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects within the assigned area of responsibility. This position serves as a training role for those with degrees in a related field but with limited to no field experience.
Hard Skills Conducts site inspections to monitor progress/conformance to specs and procedures Designs portions of a project Performs calculations using engineering formulas Instructs drafters to reduce designs into completed drawings Conducts routine geotechnical engineering laboratory checks Leads concrete and rebar inspection testing Conducts research and writes reports Prepares samples of unapproved materials for laboratory testing Uses computer to run standard programs to solve engineering problems Performs routine laboratory tests to determine various design parameters Plans and implements engineering programs Develops and maintains project schedules and budgets Provides project status reports and adjusts schedules accordingly Controls expenditures within project budget limitations Coordinates project staffing requirements Prepares and delivers project deliverables, design documents, and bid packages Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles and specifications Coordinates technical developments and resolves engineering design/test problems Prepares interim and completion project reports Provides status and progress reports to customer, project team, and management Classifies soils according to standard types Applies geological knowledge to construction projects Prepares geologic reports and maps Conducts environmental studies and prepares reports Directs drilling of exploratory borings and wells Oversees installation of monitoring wells Collects soil and groundwater samples for chemical analysis Determines direction of groundwater flow Assesses contamination in soil and groundwater Participates in decision making regarding research priorities Seeks opportunities to promote company's services Soft Skills Provides guidance to junior staff and interns Answers questions and acts as a resource to junior staff Directs tasks and other junior staff as needed Identifies potential for new projects Travels 25% to 100% of the time, potentially out of state Job Type
