Serves as a resource for the data collection and analytic needs of routine research studies and projects. Assists with data mapping and cleaning activities that improve research data infrastructure. Captures and formulates requirements; develop scripts; and delivers reproduceable analysis-ready datasets.
Major Responsibilities: Works with investigators to understand and document research study needs and project aims from clinical, research, and technical perspectives. Captures and formulates technical and analytic requirements for various types of routine research projects in data collection plans. Effectively sources data that best meets the requirements of research studies and projects. Determines data decisions through reviewing system and clinical documentation, relying on or acquiring clinical and workflow knowledge, exploring data from information systems, conducting chart reviews, and partnering with other analysts. Understands and communicates the advantages and disadvantages of data decisions to stakeholders. Collaborates with programmers, analysts, registrars, and other data owners to acquire data for research studies and projects. May directly acquire data from well-defined internal and external data sources. Develops, tests, and debugs moderately complex SQL and routine R, Python, or SAS code to deliver reproduceable analysis-ready datasets. Documents processes and rationales with code. Provides data dictionaries and descriptive statistics with datasets as appropriate. Ensures that datasets meet research standards for analysis. Coordinates with other analysts and occasionally leverages technical skills to programmatically manipulate datasets to achieve quality. Assists with data mapping and cleaning activities. Makes recommendations and improves data quality within research data infrastructure. Communicates data quality issues with data owners. Tracks department project statuses and metrics. Regularly and proactively communicates project status and issues with research investigators and stakeholders. Ensures datasets are accessible and provided to research investigators and stakeholders in a manner consistent with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Institutional Review Board (IRB), legal agreements, policies and procedures, and other appropriate standards. Increases collaboration, efficiency, and standardization within the department by contributing and improving documentation, code repositories, and internal packages. Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required: Epic Caboodle Data Model certification issued by Epic. needs to be obtained within 6 months, and Epic Clarity Data Model certification issued by Epic (CLR110). needs to be obtained within 6 months, and Epic Clinical Data Model certification issued by Epic (COG240). needs to be obtained within 6 months. Education Required: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or Bachelor's Degree in Health Science or related field, or Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field. Experience Required: Typically requires 2 years of experience in data management, data analysis, health care, or research Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Experience communicating professionally and proactively, honoring deliverables, and providing expertise. Demonstrated analytical, logic and creativity skills. Knowledge with data reporting and data management. Experience with SQL and other programming languages. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail. Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) patient confidentiality and privacy regulations. Ability to explain technical subjects to non-technical clients. Ability to work independently or as part of a team and balance multiple priorities. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Position may require travel which may result in exposure to road and weather hazards. Exposed to normal office environment.
