Overview
Substation Equipment Engineer required to join collaborative engineering culture in Orange and Rockland Engineering. The work allows for broad, diverse experience managing small to large projects that allow engineers to learn and be challenged.Equipment Engineer: Under limited supervision (Senior Engineer) of the Senior Electrical Engineer or Manager of Transmission and Substation Engineering, performs assignments of basic and moderate complexity in engineering design, problem analysis, planning, conducts field investigations and prepares associated reports, specifications, standards and test memoranda within the field or fields of responsibility.Engineer will serve on committees as required as well as attend and represent the Company at industry meetings.

Responsible for providing the specification preparation, purchase, construction, and maintenance support for major substation electrical equipment (HV and MV circuit breakers, power transformers, MV switchgear, capacitor banks, gas-insulated substations (GIS), instrument transformers, dc systems, test sets, etc.). This includes preparation of electrical equipment specifications, technical analysis of bid proposals, review of all manufacturers designs and drawings, factory, and field inspection, and furnishing of technical expertise to the Construction and Operating Departments. Responsible for providing field support to system and equipment problems. They will provide technical guidance and resolve problems during installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair or replacement of equipment.
Prepare equipment and accessory purchase specifications; review and evaluates manufactures' proposals and drawings.
Ensure that the department is kept up to date on the progress of projects, including the update of the Budget.
Provide input for the development and update of equipment health indices and recommends planned equipment replacements.
Interface with equipment manufacturers, industry standards and R&D organizations. Perform vendor qualification activities and approves equipment suitable for our transmission and area substations.
Conduct and participates in field evaluation/analysis of field equipment or system misoperation, prepares failure analysis reports and other analyses as may be required.
Prepare test procedures for equipment commissioning or post repair restoration
Participates in the Companys Emergency Response Plan through a designated storm assignment.
Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and 3-5 years of total work experience in development and application of technical principles in substation equipment rating, application, specification, engineering, operation, and maintenance. or
Preferred Education/Experience
Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 2 years of total work experience in development and application of technical principles in substation equipment rating, application, specification, engineering, operation, and maintenance.
Relevant Work Experience
Working knowledge of applicable codes and industry standards associated with the equipment. Required
Experience and/or knowledge of substation layout and major equipment including breakers, switches, and substation steel. Required
The ability to interpret layout, one-line, and schematic drawings. Required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical, technical and computer skills. Required
Proficiency with IEEE/ANSI Standards and National Electrical Safety Code. Required
Ability to write specifications and standards and coordinate engineering projects and assignments. Preferred

Licenses And Certfications
Driver's License Required
Professional Engineer (PE) Preferrederable to have a NY, NJ & PA Professional Engineers License or be in the process of qualifying for a license. Preferred
Additional Physical Demands
Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
Able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
