A Brief Overview
The implementation of exercise based rehabilitation programs including prescription, supervision, and education.
What You Will Do Develops, implements, modifies and monitors all patients progress, goals and treatment plans related to cardiac, pulmonary, vascular and/or other exercise rehabilitation for a variety of clinical programs
• Evaluates new patients and clients to determine therapy/treatment/exercise program needs
• Administers diagnostic stress tests, health risk appraisals, and/or fitness testing. Monitor's patient response
• Develop, update and present educational classes and materials relate to cardiac and pulmonary rehab to patients families and/or community
• Administer submaximal treadmill stress tests and/or 6 minute walk test
• Thoroughly educates patients on their exercise program, health needs, and risks
• Complete appropriate documentation including evaluation reports and discharge summaries
• Develops exercise programs that appropriately address patient's short and long-term goals
• Assist's patients with prescribed therapeutic and/or fitness/performance-related exercises
• Adapt exercise programs, as appropriate to help patient meet improvement goals
Accurately interprets EKGs and/or diagnostic tests including telemetry monitoring. Clean, maintain, and inspect exercise equipment. Report repair/maintenance needs. Coordinate care with other patient care providers as appropriate, to ensure proper, continuous, and beneficial treatment. Provide community fitness, health, and/or athletic performance training. Respond appropriately to emergency situations. Participates in evaluation of current practices, program improvement, and development of new procedures practices to improve patient care. Enhance knowledge in field of practice and remain current on industry trends and changes. Schedule patients timely by managing referrals thru all available source lists. Additional Responsibilities Mentor, train, and orient new department staff as assigned. Mentor student interns as assigned Completes assignments accurately and timely as assigned Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation. Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace. Qualifications: Education Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field at an accredited institution (Required) Work Experience 1+ years Hospital/Rehab setting or 1000 hours clinical experience in supervised program (Preferred) Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge of exercise prescription and safe cardiovascular training methods ( proficiency) Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
