Overview

The Center for Family Safety and Healing (TCFSH)- Adult Advocate provides advocacy, support, and case management to adults who have experienced interpersonal family violence with a particular emphasis on domestic violence, including elder abuse. The advocate works in the home and community setting as appropriate to respond to victims of interpersonal violence, and participates in a multidisciplinary team approach to care. The advocate must possess sound knowledge of family violence and related systems that influence effective interventions to assure safety, referral for needed services, and coordination of care including law enforcement, prosecution, and physical and behavioral health services.
Schedule: Monday-Friday day shift, occasional evenings required

Responsibilities

Responds to requests from law enforcement, the courts, child welfare, social service and medical providers for advocacy and support to victims of family violence, in particular domestic violence. Provides response in home and community settings based on assessment of safety and need. Provides in-service training on interpersonal family violence as requested. Provides support and psycho-educational groups to victims of interpersonal violence. Participates in program development, operating procedures, and evidence-based techniques, with particular attention to integration of services with community partners. Assists therapists working individually or in groups by providing case management support to identified clients. Demonstrates the appropriate use of advocacy and psycho-educational support interventions when working with adults who have experienced interpersonal family violence. Provides and documents clinical practice in accordance with TCFSH, Joint Commission, funding agency requirements, safety standards, and other appropriate standards. Maintains timely records. Provides internal and external referrals and continuity of care for related service needs or for adult trauma treatments not available at TCFSH. Works collaboratively with other hospitals and community programs when providing services to adults with children in their treatment programs. Participates consistently in clinical supervision, peer review, staff meetings, and other quality assurance processes. Collaborates effectively with the interdisciplinary team to identify, assess, and report suspected family violence as required by law, with particular attention to risk reduction and prevention. Manages subpoenas effectively and provides court testimony as appropriate. Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development by participating in proactive goal setting, maintaining appropriate licensure, and participating in education/training opportunities both at TCFSH as well as in the community. Advocates for and represents the aspiration and values of TCFSH. Maintains an environment of safety for clients, self, and others and supports patient safety initiatives. Supports the development of TCFSH by performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Reporting Relationships: Reports to: Clinical Lead Supervisor - Advocate Supervisor
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, or related field. At least 2 years' experience working with family violence victims. Knowledge of interpersonal family violence and treatment interventions to respond to adults presenting with these concerns. Demonstrates awareness of diversity issues and provides culturally sensitive services to clients. Knowledge of community systems that support an effective response for victims of interpersonal family violence. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers, and to work as a part of an interdisciplinary team. Maintains reliable transportation, and both an acceptable driving record and automobile insurance, with acceptable coverage for business driving/transporting of consumers, in accordance with NCH policies. Ability to manage confidential information in a complex hospital environment and community settings.
