About Alameda Point Collaborative and Farm2Market:Alameda Point Collaborative (APC) is the largest supportive housing community in the county, working to end homelessness by providing housing and services to create communities where formerly homeless families and individuals can flourish. APC's Farm2Market (F2M) is a diversified working urban farm and a social enterprise of Alameda Point Collaborative. The farm consists of 2 acres of vegetable crops, fruit orchards, bee hives, and ducks. We use our passion for community, food, and the environment to support APC residents as they move toward economic self-sufficiency and greater health and wellness. The farm employs APC residents through a workforce development program, which uses the hands-on work of farm production, marketing, sales, and customer relations as key activities through which trainees can learn work readiness skills, understand workplace behaviors, and practice personal and team accountability. We offer workforce development programs for youth residents (ages 14-17) in the spring, summer, and fall. The farm also operates a CSA business and free weekly grocery delivery to residents of APC in collaboration with the Alameda County Community Food Bank.

Farmer/ Grower/Aspiring Farmer: Holds a strong interest and enthusiasm in farming and has experience with the basic processes of growing vegetables and fruits, including planting, transplanting, watering, weeding, and more. This position is designed for growth, and training and support will be provided.Connector: Ability to connect and build trust with our APC residents, as well as coworkers and partner organizations. This includes strong sensitivity to the challenges related to transitioning from homelessness to stable housing and employment.Collaborative: Enjoys working as a team and sees supporting team members as a positive part of their role. Ability to communicate clearly and directly and to adjust communication style to best fit different situations.Proactive Problem Solver: Ability to think critically and adapt in a flexible environment; ability to anticipate needs, prioritize, and take appropriate actions.You will be expected to:Complete Farm Tasks and Farm Business (CSA) Support:Participate in the daily and annual upkeep of the farm to keep it productive, beautiful, and welcoming. This encompasses a range of agricultural tasks, including planting, weeding, fertilizing, harvesting, watering, pest management, greenhouse care, infrastructure maintenance, and more.Share responsibility for meeting production commitments for a 30-member CSA, regardless of the crew size or composition.Participate in weekly free grocery bag packing and delivery to residents of APC.Lead Farm Crew and Volunteers in Farm tasks/Collaborate on Community Engagement Programs and Activities:Lead farm projects in collaboration with manager and other staff.Act as lead at various points throughout the week, overseeing the broad spectrum of tasks that crew members and volunteers are working on and helping to give new tasks to individuals based on priority.Work in collaboration with the F2M Manager, Assistant Manager, and Program Coordinator to further engage the APC resident community with the farm.Help to expand/improve the farm's community offerings by supporting and/or leading the development of resident-focused activities and events.Administration and Other Duties:Attend regular meetings, including monthly supervisor check-in; biweekly team meetings, monthly APC staff meetings, and any other working group meetings.Submit timecards, receipts, time off requests, etc., in the appropriate timeframe.Farm Hosting:Welcome farm visitors and share information about the farm.Lead groups of volunteers during open volunteer hours Wed, Fri, Sat 10 am – 2 pm.Help host CSA pickup as applicable; demonstrate excellent customer service.Additional Skills and Qualifications: Must be able to perform physical labor related to farm production activities, such as lifting up to 30-50 pounds, bending, reaching, squatting, using farm tools, etc.Experience working in farm production or related agricultural work.Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions every day (paid days off given during heavy inclement weather at the discretion of the Manager).Ability and willingness to function as a member of a team.Ability to maintain role boundaries while working cooperatively with administrators, service staff, residents, volunteers.Excellence with time management and organization of tasks and resources.Must be able to pass background check.Verifiable ability to and willingness to adhere to organizational policies and procedures.Must be available to work 5 days a week – 9:00 am-3:30 pm Tuesday-Saturday (some flexibility with scheduled hours is possible upon hiring).Additional relevant but not required skills include:Experience/interest in regenerative agriculture.Experience/interest in fruit tree management.Experience/interest in operating farm machinery and power tools such as rototillers, weed whackers, drills, saws, etc.Experience/interest in building and construction trades.This job description does not promise or imply that the functions listed are the only duties to be performed or that the position may not change or be eliminated.
