ABOUT US:

APC's mission is to end homelessness by providing housing and services to create communities where individuals and families who have experienced homelessness can build toward self-sufficiency. At APC, we believe we better meet our mission by recruiting, training, and retaining a diverse and representative workforce at all job levels of our community. Over 50% of APC's employees have lived experience with homelessness. This experience and our employees' many other skills and talents strengthen our work. JOB SUMMARY:

The Farm2Market Youth Workforce Development program offers support, resources, education, and employment and training opportunities for trainees seeking to acquire the essential skills and experiences needed to transition into the workforce or pursue higher education. This 12-week, part-time program will start on September 7, 2024, and end on November 23, 2024. Participants will engage in 6.5 hours per week of hands-on experience and curriculum at the farm.

ON-SITE WORK EXPERIENCE:

During the program, trainees will gain valuable "hard skills" and "non-transferable" skills unique to the agricultural industry. These skills will enhance their resumes and increase their chances of securing permanent employment in related fields. Some examples of these skills include:
Gardening - seeding, plant maintenance, harvesting, food distribution. Community engagement with customers and volunteersFood justice principles and curriculumHealthy eating and cooking skills
The Farm2Market Youth Workforce Development program aims to simulate a real workplace environment to help trainees prepare for their future employment or educational careers. This program provides a space for participants to learn new skills, gain knowledge, and enhance their existing abilities.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Must be between the ages of 14-17 and a resident of APC, BCC, Dignity Commons, or First Place for Youth. Must meet employment requirements to work in the US.Must be able to obtain a work permit.
** Hourly pay is $16.52 an hour. Trainees work on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with an unpaid 30-minute lunch break from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Trainees may work additional hours if their school schedule allows and if the Farm requires extra assistance.
