Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Food & Nutrition Services Coordinator and the Chief Business Official, with daily tasks guided and directed by Lead Kitchen Worker or designee, the Food Services Assistant I assists in the preparation, cooking, and serving of food, performs cleaning tasks in school cafeterias, serves food in school cafeterias, maintains food service facilities in a safe and sanitary condition, supports daily food services program operations, and completes related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assists in the cooking and preparation of food for the the purpose of ensuring effective menu implementation
Sets up, prepares and breaks down serving areas in cafeteria and food service areas for the purpose of serving meals to students
Provides assistance with nutrition processes and operations (including daily record keeping, meal counts, production records, food and refrigerator/freezer temperature monitoring, quantity and quality of food inventory, cleanliness of equipment, cleanliness of preparation and serving areas, food preparation and serving, reporting equipment operating problems and other kitchen issues to Lead Kitchen Worker, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring implementation of daily processes and all nutrition service requirements
Cleans kitchen, utensils, dishes, equipment, storage, food preparation, and serving areas for the purpose of maintaining required sanitary conditions
Assists in loading and unloading transport vehicle
Performs cashier duties using the POS system, and according to established procedures
Performs functions of other nutritional services positions as needed at all district sites, as requested by supervisor, for the purpose of ensuring adequate staff coverage within the district food and nutrition services operations
Attends unit meetings, in-service trainings, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions

Requirements / Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Experience in the preparation and/or serving of food in a cafeteria or restaurant preferred
California ServSafe Food Handling Certification preferred
