POSITION SUMMARY:
The
Forklift Operator (FO)
provides support operating powered industrial trucks to load and unload materials and deliveries and move them to and from storage areas and loading docks, into trucks or storage facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Abide by all company rules and policies to promote safety
Examining products to verify conformance to clients' quality standards
Follow all health and safety procedure and regulations as dictated by the organization and the state
Follow safe operating procedures
Loading and unloading goods, cargo (loose, bulk or in pallets) or equipment from vehicles such as trucks or vessels
Maintains clear and open communication with management
Moving goods or cargo packed on pallets, in crates or loose/bulk around the storage facility
Must wear required personal protective equipment: safety vest, safety shoes, helmet
Operate forklift with care and with awareness to people and environment around machine
Stacking and moving loose/bulk cargo or in pallets
Stacking goods or cargo in the correct storage bays, following inventory control instructions
Transports goods, cargo (loose/bulk) or equipment to and from designated areas in the facility
Verify loads are safe and secure
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure forklift is properly stored, fueled, cleaned, and ready to operate
Identify safety hazards in the workplace
Inspect machinery to determine the need for repairs and safe operation
Learn and understand the various loading configurations, and patterns of product / commodities
Load trailers and flat racks safely and properly while using standard loading procedures / patterns without damaging products, boxes, or trailer equipment.
Perform daily equipment checks
Stack and organize large bulk items
Assist dispatch office with product availability to help schedule truck loading
General warehouse duties as needed
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
· High School diploma or equivalent
· 3+ years' experience operating powered forklift, heavy machinery, or other related equipment
· Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
· Clean driving record and a valid state motor vehicle operator's license may be required
· Execute assignments in an accurate, timely and safe manner
· Forklift certification per OSHA standards
· High degree of attention required to prevent injury to others; promote a safe work environment
· Knowledge of various material-handling equipment an asset
· Maintain a clean & safe environment
· Math, language and reading skills; basic computer skills may be required
· May be required to use RF scanner gun
· Must be able to read and follow loading instructions, and communicate with line truck drivers any weight restrictions / limits
· Must understand weight distribution and demonstrate loading capabilities
· Possess a high regard for safety in the workplace
· Sense of urgency and self-motivation; ability to work independently
· Understand of OSHA regulations
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to assess weights and judge distances and heights
Frequently required to talk or hear.
Having a good sense of balance
Having good eye-hand-foot coordination
Must have the ability to turn head to look in the direction of travel and to look up.
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Prolonged sitting on a powered industrial truck
Regularly required to walk and sit
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must of the work performed outdoors on a warehouse environment
May involve working outdoors in inclement weather
May involve exposure to exhaust fumes and dust
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high
