The successful candidate will be a key advisor, providing legal and policy guidance to the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities. This role involves a diverse set of responsibilities, including supervising and managing the Office of the General Counsel, overseeing legal matters and activities, and ensuring the legal adequacy of official actions. The General Counsel will also be involved in the negotiation and approval of various contracts, agreements, and MOUs, and will serve as the legal representative in disputes or lawsuits. Collaboration with senior management to set agency priorities, and the design and delivery of training on legal and policy matters, are also part of the role.
Applicants must have a JD, be a member of the Massachusetts Bar, and have a minimum of 10 years' experience in housing and community development, with at least 5 years as legal counsel. The role requires expertise in state and federal housing and community development programs, as well as exceptional communication, judgment, and problem-solving skills. A strong background in administrative law is essential, particularly in relation to the operation of cabinet-level executive branch agencies. The General Counsel will be expected to have a deep understanding of the legal and technical aspects of the primary housing and shelter programs administered by the company, and the ability to apply this knowledge to provide effective and accurate advice.
