The successful candidate will promote continuous learning and innovative thinking, encourage and enable process improvement, and have a lead role in the management of the group's services, delivering creative solutions to sophisticated problems.

As the Group Supervisor for Data Center Services, you will... Lead and mentor a highly-technical group of over 70 people in the delivery of enterprise IT infrastructure services, develop strategy, provide direction, and implement plans to meet group objectives in the delivery of IT services. Be the focus of critical issues and coordinate major problem resolution efforts as required. Responsible for service ownership, setting a strategic direction for the service areas and their evolution over time to ensure service portfolio supports current and emerging business needs. Service areas include: Cloud Engineering, IT Infrastructure / Client Security, Server Administration, Storage Administration, Client Management, Database Administration, Applications Infrastructure Administration, Data Center Facility Management, Big Data, and Generative AI. Work closely with the ITSD Strategy Team (direct reports to the CIO and peer supervisors) to develop and implement department-level strategy and objectives; ensure success of critical department projects and initiatives; ensure a positive work environment and sustain a culture of excellence. Work on enterprise initiatives, as required, especially in support of innovation and collaboration at the Applied Physics Laboratory. Recruit, develop, and coordinate a diverse and highly skilled workforce with expertise in the core technical areas of the Group. Define expectations, coach performance, administer salary actions, and provide professional development. Identify and develop key talent for future leadership roles. Oversee the Group's budget to ensure spending is within targets. Ensure effective execution of tasks within the Group while managing workload and coverage. Define, negotiate, and track Group level overhead and capital funding allocations and office space. Work closely with the Program Management staff to forecast and track resource needs and ensure the cost efficiency of the Group's work. Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications if you... Possess a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology (IT), Computer Science, or related field. Possess 15+ years of IT Operations and Service Delivery experience or related field with at least 10 years in management/supervisory roles preferably of enterprise IT infrastructure, application hosting, and data center operations. Have strong demonstrated skills in: leadership, strategy, organization, and planning, with the ability to establish relationships and effectively interact with all levels of staff and management. Possess strong communication skills, both oral and written and strong customer interaction skills. Have experience with hiring, training, performance management, and coaching staff. Have a proven track record of successfully leading and motivating teams in solving complex problems. Have a solid understanding of the DFARS requirements, including NIST 800-171. Have experience architecting solutions for Cybersecurity. Are self-motivated to analyze and resolve complex problems using current job knowledge, research data, and collaboration with internal/external resources. Are willing and able to work occasional weekends and other after hours work to handle and/or complete critical project/work-related business needs. Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you... Possess a Master's degree in Information Systems, or related field. Have prior experience as a line manager at the Group Supervisor level. Have experience with Network Management, System Administration, Help Desk, Information Security, and related technical support tools. Have familiarity with the NIST 800-171 standard for the protection of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM) for protecting classified information. Have experience as a Program Manager; experience with matrix management, and running projects involving at least 10 people. Have experience with ITIL (pref. certification), Service Management, and Operations Management. Have experience managing a multi-million-dollar budget. Why work at APL?
