Harm Reduction Specialist
Summary
The Harm Reduction Specialist supports the Safe Haven residential program by providing education regarding evidence-based harm reduction practices for residents and staff. The Harm Reduction Specialist assists the Mental Health Specialist and Program Manager by aiding clients meet their treatment goals in regard to substance use, and other barriers.
The Harm Reduction Specialist supports the Safe Haven program by providing direct services to residents through harm reduction education, relationship building, assessment, crisis intervention, benefits advocacy, mental health services, group facilitation, care management, and other. The Harm Reduction Specialist delivers current information on community resources for harm reduction, housing, mental health, legal services and other.
Essential Responsibilities
Educate veterans and staff about the Harm Reduction approachProvide low barrier treatment services with a person centered approach Provide materials such as Narcan and Fentanyl testing strips to clients along with informational materials Coordinate and provide care that is safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and client centered.Adhere to laws regarding confidentiality and reporting requirements Maintain program participant files and online databases in an orderly and uniform manner in compliance with HIPAA, Department of Public Health (DPH), VA Conduct client assessments and intake forms to gather information to develop service and treatment goals.Collaborate with clients individually on harm reduction plans Conduct weekly veteran support groupsParticipate in daily and weekly case conferencing with VA liaison and program staff Assist in transportation to medical and mental health appointments Provide support to clients in a non-judgmental fashionMust be able to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable embracing the agency's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiative and the principles of Cultural Humility.
Requirements
Proficiency in PC and Microsoft systems: Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.Ability to effectively use photocopiers, scanners, facsimile machines, and voice mail systems.Excellent customer service, organizational and time management skills Strong written and oral communication skills Ability to work in a team environment. Desired Qualifications
Understanding of the functions, rules and regulations of a paramilitary organization Familiarity with San Francisco community-based organizations and resources Experience working with populations experiencing dual-diagnosis.
Education
A minimum of two years' experience providing mental health/substance abuse and social services to low-income and at-risk populations BA (Bachelor of Art) in Behavioral Science (Social Work, Forensic Psychology, Community Studies, etc.) This position requires prolonged sitting and repetitive hand movement using a computer keyboard in the performance of daily activities.
