As the head of mechanical engineering you will have a hand in all hardware that Loft puts into space, ensuring that along the way, our design, analysis, manufacture, build and test operates like a finely tuned machined (or spacecraft)! About this role:
Lead and mentor a team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
Accountable for all mechanical and thermal engineering activities.
Ensure all aspects of design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing are executed to the highest standards.
Collaborate with product development and program execution to ensure successful execution of our space programs.
Enhance and maintain the supporting processes and infrastructure that contribute to Loft's success.
Must Haves:
10+ years as a mechanical engineer in the space industry.
A pragmatic thinker who can problem solve.
A passionate, relatable, accountable leader.
End-to-end satellite program experience (design through to launch of at least one, preferably multiple programs).
Spacecraft design, analysis and test experience (both structural and thermal).
Has a strong technical engineering background (has done the work before!).
A strong background in spacecraft design, analysis, and testing.
Nice to Haves:
Knowledge of force-limited vibration.
Has flown hardware on rideshare launches.
Experience working with launch providers/brokers.

$165,500 - $224,000 a year
State law requires us to tell you the base compensation range for this role, which is $165,500- $224,000 per year which is determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The salary range for this role is intentionally wide as we evaluate individuals based on their unique experience and abilities to fit our needs. Loft Orbital builds "shareable" satellites, providing a fast & simple path to orbit for organizations that require access to space. Powered by our hardware & software products, we operate satellites, fly customer payloads onboard, and handle entire missions from end to end - significantly reducing the lead-time and risk of a traditional space mission.
Our standard interface enables us to fly multiple customer payloads on the same satellite, with capabilities such as earth imagery, weather & climate /science data collection, IoT connectivity, in-orbit demonstrations, and national security missions.
