Acts as the designee to the Superintendent in administering the student discipline process in accordance with the policies of the Board of Education and the Guide to Student Success. Works with district administrators to ensure that due process is followed in student discipline and expulsion matters and that well-reasoned and timely recommendations are placed before the Executive Director of Student Services with reference to all such matters.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Administration (preferred) Five (5) or more years of teaching or administration in a public-school or similar school system ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned. Conducts student discipline hearings; documents a summary of the hearing and related findings. Makes recommendations to the Executive Director of Student Services on the proper discipline including suspensions, expulsions and alternative placements. Works cooperatively with the district's legal counsel to share information and discuss issues as appropriate. Works collaboratively and communicates with the Office of Special Education to assure students' educational rights and due process are maintained throughout the disciplinary process. Provides assistance and guidance to district administrators regarding student rights and responsibilities under the Guide to Student Success, Board of Education policies, as well as appropriate administrative guidelines. Acts as liaison with administrators and parents/guardians including taking calls from administrators to determine hearing type and schedule, ensuring receipt of due process. Logs all phone calls and discipline information into the student information system. Prepares required documentation and reports. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILIITIES Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of due process, Board of Education policies, administrative guidelines and procedures Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate, orally and in written form, with district administrators, parents and students Written and computer skills necessary to update student records as part of the student information system Analytical ability to develop plans of action to address a variety of student issues and concerns in a timely manner. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Tools/Equipment: Desktop PC with keyboard and mouse, laptop, scanner, calculator, software, desk, and adjustable chair. Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing, occasional stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and twisting. Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding, and use of a mouse; occasional reaching. Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (less than 10 pounds). Environment: Works in office setting; may require occasional irregular hours and/or prolonged hours. Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
