We are excited to announce that we are looking for a Per Diem Histology Technician at ourBrooklyn Gastroenterology and Endoscopy of Brooklyn New York Responsibilities: The Histotechnician position is responsible for processing specimens received in the laboratory with minimal supervision. Should be able to perform all routine procedures to include accessioning of specimens, grossing, embedding, cutting, staining, cover slipping, labeling and distribution. Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation. Prepares and maintains working solutions for routine H&E staining on automatic strainers and special staining. Completes all routine and special requests for additional levels, recuts, special stains and immunohistochemistry. Performs necessary maintenance of all laboratory instrumentation, including but not limited to, the changing of instrument reagents used to process, stain and coverslip tissue. Responsible for appropriate QA documentation with regard to maintenance and temperature logs to be performed daily. Ensures that the day-to-day assigned tasks are consistently and accurately completed. Perform QC of specimens. Complies with all Lab Standard Operating Protocols as well as all local, federal, CLIA, CLEP and CAP regulations. Handles and disposes of chemical waste based on the laboratory's process. Prepares, cleans, and maintains laboratory equipment, and instruments used in all areas of the lab. Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problem(s) or immediately notify the manager. Essential Skills Ability to work in a fast-past, deadline-driven environment. Ability to manage multiple activities and deadlines. Self-starter and self-directed. Strong interpersonal skills Education Experience on the bench doing the basics in histotechnology such as fixation, processing, embedding, cutting, staining, cover slipping, and simple special stains preferred. Clinical Laboratory Technician or Histology certification required. Work Environment This job operates in a professional laboratory environment. This role routinely uses standard pathology laboratory equipment.
