The Hockomock Area YMCA is hiring Integration Co-Instructors for our North Attleboro and Franklin branches. The Integration Co-Instructor provides support, guidance, leadership, social opportunities, and safe quality interventions to children with disabilities while maintaining the goal of integrating them into typical programming. The Co-instructors work in coordination with program instructors and in accordance with YMCA guidelines and the philosophies and practices of the Hockomock Area YMCA.
Essential Functions Facilitates the successful integration of participants with disabilities with typically developing peers Supports participants by learning how to best accommodate their needs within the program thus ensuring that everything is in place to promote their success. This includes but is not limited to: modeling, direct service/intervention, consulting with families or involved clinicians, developing aids such as story boards/cue cards, etc. Develops relationships with participants and their peers to encourage the participant with disabilities to participate in the activities, have fun learning the skills being taught, and socialize with the other participants in the class Discusses any questions or concerns with the Integration Coordinator Is aware of any safety issues that may harm the participant or other individuals; if safety is in jeopardy at any time, resolves the safety issue first Communicates regularly with supervisor to share ideas, observations, review goals, problem solve, and evaluate progress Builds effective, authentic relationships with participants and parents; helping them connect with each other and the YMCA while encouraging parent involvement and identify potential volunteers Maintains records, including attendance and participants' skills and levels Attends staff meetings and trainings, as scheduled Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures, completing accident/incident reports, as necessary Finds appropriate coverage for a shift if unable to work Ensures the safety of all participants; never leaving a participant or class unattended Requirements16 years old or older Able to stay calm and respond effectively in an emergency Positive, friendly attitude and strong interpersonal skills First Aid, CPR and AED certified or willingness to become certified in those areas Experience developing and/or participating in programs for participants with disabilities Experience communicating with parents and guardians Dependable, trust worthy, focus, and good judgment Able to provide a safe and fun experience for participants with and without disabilities Flexible and able to provide advice as to the structure of a class to better tailor the needs of all participants Able and willing to be trained in providing accommodations to participants with disabilities, positive behavior interventions, and general information about certain disabilities Able to support children with disabilities in various class settings including: swim lessons, sports classes, and enrichment classes
