JOB SUMMARY

The LPN will perform routine technical nursing duties and assist with other related duties involved in providing patient care. Duties my include explaining programs offered by the Hospital to individuals. Work is performed under the administrative supervision of a licensed physician and/or registered nurse.

Reporting Structure: Nurse Manager/Nurse Director

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Education

Graduate of an accredited LPN program

Work Experience

1 year LPN experience in a hospital or nursing home environment

License/Certification

Current Tennessee State Licensed Practical Nurse with no restrictions

Must I.V. Certified

Current Basic Life Support (BLS),

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through American Heart Association

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Nursing/Patient Care

Provides prescribed quality and safe; compassionate, and empathic nursing care to patients.

Administers prescribed medications or start intravenous fluids, noting times and amounts on patients' charts.

Provides basic patient care or treatments, such as taking temperatures or blood pressures, dressing wounds, treating bedsores, giving enemas or douches, rubbing with alcohol, massaging, or performing catheterizations.

Interviews patients or relatives to obtain appropriate patient health history and/or immunization status

Performs screening tests as required based on standards prepared by education and experience

Administers injections and medications according to HMC policy and procedures

Adheres to the nurse practice act

Prepares, administers, and records immunizations and medications as regulatory agency policies permits

Maintains patient charts, documents patient records, and prepares oral reports

Observes patients, charting and reporting changes in patients' conditions, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and taking any necessary action.

Answers patients' calls and determine how to assist them.

Measures and record patients' vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.

Administers prescribed medications or start intravenous fluids, noting times and amounts on patients' charts.

Promotes culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention

Maintains hospital standards for clean and quiet patient environment to maintain a positive patient care experience

Demonstrates knowledge of accepted procedures for disposing of used supplies

Demonstrates working knowledge of transferring and repositioning patients

Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities

Adheres to infection-control policies, practices protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards

Maintains compliance with HMC policies including established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards.

Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, DNV standards and /or standards from other approved accrediting agencies.

Complies with HMC and regulatory policies regarding confidential patient information (HIPAA)

OTHER DUTIES

Cleans and maintains hospital equipment and disposes of used supplies in accordance with safety standards

Assembles materials and equipment in preparation for patient care and maintains adequate supplies

Contributes to the attainment of the goals of HMC by using contacts with individuals and community relationships to contribute to the betterment of public understanding of health services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Prolonged periods of standing and walking

Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 40 pounds during a scheduled work shift.

Must be able to see with corrective eye wear

Must be able to hear clearly with assistance

May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases

Able to handle emergency and/or crisis situations

May be required to wear protective equipment as necessary

Transferring, repositioning patients.

Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching for patient care functions.

Ability to perform effectively in a stressful and fast-paced environment.

Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests including random and reasonable suspicion drug screens.
