To find out more about the LACDA, please visit our web site at www.lacda.org.Division Overview:The LACDA Housing Operation Division serves as the second largest public housing agency (PHA) in Southern California and receives funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to maintain and manage public and affordable housing located throughout Los Angeles County. LACDA owns and operates 3,229 public and affordable units located within 68 sites, with three of its major public housing sites being Carmelitos in North Long Beach (713 units), Nueva Maravilla in unincorporated East Los Angeles (504 units), and Harbor Hills in the City of Lomita (301 units). The remaining senior and family housing units are located throughout all five Los Angeles County Supervisorial Districts.Position Overview:Under general supervision, performs journey level electrical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of various electrical systems. Trains technicians to troubleshoot and perform electrical repairs, and new installation in a safe manner. May supervise apprentices or helpers. This position will be required to perform routine maintenance work when not performing his electrical duties as assigned. This position will be required to participate in an On-Call rotation schedule.This position is based in East Los Angeles, CA and will be required to address other electrical assignments throughout Los Angeles County, as needed.Essential Job DutiesThe below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work performed by this position. Other duties may be assigned.Performs electrical work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and alteration of wiring systems and electrical fixtures in buildings and facilities. Performs assigned duties at various locations.Performs work in the installation, maintenance, alteration, and repair of wiring, electrical appliances, machinery, branch circuits, transformers, operating a bucket truck or similar equipment, and handling of heavy equipment.Lays out, assembles, installs, tests, and maintains electrical devices and apparatus such as boxes, conduit, wiring outlets, distribution panels, main electrical service, and bus bars.Tests circuits for continuity and proper connections.Uses standard and specialized electrical devices or equipment such as voltmeter, amp meter, ohmmeter, megohmmeter, and other hand tools.Performs scheduled maintenance and inspections of housing development electrical systems and wiring that include, emergency generators, heating and air conditioning equipment, field lighting, controller systems, sound and amplifier systems, automatic gate control for vehicle gates, intercoms and key-card systems, and access security controls, various other power and lighting systems in LACDA structures.Makes electrical tests for shorts, grounds, open circuits, open neutrals, and other difficulties on primary and secondary electrical systems.Upgrades electrical panels or breaker boxes.Repairs, replaces, and rewires electrical circuits, receptacles, light fixtures, switches fuses and outlets determining methods of installation and repair. Installs and repairs raceways.Interprets work from sketches, drawings, and blueprints; Maintains tools and equipment in satisfactory working condition.Prepares estimates of time and materials required for new construction and repairs; Requisitions materials and maintains records; maintains adequate stock of materials; prepares standard reports as required.Uses a variety of electrical, hand and power tools in the performance of duties.Routinely lifts up to 50 pounds.Responds to after-hour requests for service and emergencies as needed.Performs other related duties as assigned.Essential Knowledge and AbilitiesKnowledge of:Methods, materials, equipment, and safety procedures of the electrical trade; state, and local electrical codes; design, construction, installation, and maintenance of electrical equipment and systemsElectrical circuitry and the operation of various electrical systemsAbility to:Troubleshoot and correct operational problemsSafely operate a variety of hand tools and power equipmentRead and understand wiring diagrams and schematicsFollow oral and written instructionsWork in high altitudesLift and move objects weighing up to 50 poundsTravel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframeEstablish and maintain effective working relationshipsPrepare and maintain simple reports and logsARDUOUS: Maintenance Workers routinely lift up to fifty (50) pounds, constantly stoop and bend, work with hands and arms raised above the head, grasp materials and equipment with both hands, and climb ladders and stairs.
