Job Overview
The Mechanical Drafter will use specialized software to create detailed mechanical drawings and blueprints that will guide the manufacturing of mechanical components and systems. This role requires close collaboration with engineers and other professionals to ensure that designs are accurate, functional, and meet the required specifications. The drafter will work primarily with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software to convert technical sketches and specifications into precise plans.
Duties:
Prepare detailed mechanical drawings and plans based on engineering specifications and calculations.
Use CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) to create accurate and detailed 2D and 3D models.
Interpret technical information and ensure that designs meet applicable standards, codes, and safety regulations.
Collaborate with engineers, architects, and other team members to modify or improve existing mechanical designs.
Ensure that designs are manufacturable and suggest improvements to optimize the production process.
Review and revise drawings based on feedback from engineers and other stakeholders.
Maintain organized records of all drawings, updates, and modifications.
Conduct site visits or inspections, if necessary, to gather measurements and observe installations.
Prepare documentation and instruction manuals for manufacturing and assembly processes.
Keep up to date with new technologies, industry trends, and CAD software developments.
Experience
Associate degree or diploma in Drafting, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar tools).
Knowledge of mechanical systems and the ability to interpret engineering specifications.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
Familiarity with manufacturing processes and materials.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Basic understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is a plus.
