GENERAL SUMMARY: Under general direction, performs and reports routine or select clinical laboratory tests and procedures in one or more sections of the laboratory.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:+ Under supervision, performs select chemical, hematologic microscopic, morphologic, immunologic, and/or microbiologic procedures involving manual procedures or the use of complex laboratory instruments.+ Uses training and clinical judgment to evaluate instrument performance and quality control results to determine the accuracy and reliability of analytic data before it is released; recognizes and refers implausible results or special/unusual circumstances to medical technologist or supervisor.+ Standardizes, calibrates, operates, performs preventive maintenance and limited troubleshooting on select laboratory equipment or instruments within established parameters.+ Assists in gathering data for the evaluation, correlation, and introduction of new instrument or procedures.+ Participates in the training of students, residents, and new employees in the performance of select routine procedures; attends/ participates in department continuing education and in-service programs.+ Participates in various quality assurance and regulatory agency activities in the department including the gathering of data for quality assurance monitors; developing and adherence to safe work practices; TQM/CQI committees, etc.+ Participates in:+ Q.I./process improvements, data collection, QC documentation, and/or CAP surveys as applicable to the assigned department.+ Staff activities of a High Reliability Organization (HRO)+ Friend-at-Work program and assists in training new hires as applicable/assigned+ Staff meetings and committee meetings as assigned+ Cost effectiveness: Efficient use of time in completing tasks accurately and timely.
